That's not the reason. The logic goes like this. These same people who like Sumie Sakai's work in America never would have taken the time to watch her work in Japan. I know that doesn't make sense. I know what you mean just can't put it into words.... So many ways to twist it... I still hold true to my crazy-stiff-guygirl theory though. But you know, I think the bad booking has a part in this too.....

I actually like the commentary ;D It sounds like gibberish but in the good way, I can hear what I want to hear... blahbalablaba, blablah, BLAHH! GERMAN SUPLEX! lol The same can be said for Lucha..... blahablahalahakalaka, PLANNNNCHA! Oh and let me guess the reason......they cringe b/c the likes of Aja Kong and Dynamite Kansai aren't hot. I laugh at this reason b/c Aja and Bull Nakano was in the E 13-15 years ago and JBA and the Crush Gals were in the 80's and should the F back then had kept the ball rolling and the things that happened didn't......the Divas probably wouldn't be as they are today. Or at the very least the standards would have been raised (which is just as good) They also say that joshi's too stiff, the girls are too crazy, there are no storylines, they don't wanna watch "men" wrestle...blah That's not the reason. The logic goes like this. These same people who like Sumie Sakai's work in America never would have taken the time to watch her work in Japan. I know that doesn't make sense. I kinda get what you mean, so I'll throw out ideas.. - they're racist - they prefer 'dumbed down' Asian wrestlers compared to those in Joshi. - they aren't dedicated - .....they're poor?

Japanese Wrestling isn't on TV in any other countries and has never had any positive exposure whatsoever. Plus a WWE fan won't watch any other wrestling company for the simple reason that they all have crummy production values and most of the wrestlers are generic chubby guys with zero personality.
Marketing 101 is to take your product to the people, make it glossy, make it simple or easy to understand. There are always exceptions though. People need a hook in order to buy into a product. WWE fans are WWE fans not Wrestling fans. Even if they say they are Wrestling fans... they aren't!
You can divide people who watch WWE into three groups the WWE fans, The Casual viewers and the IWC wrestling fans.

Myself, I prefer women who are athletic and have a girl next door look. Not plastic models who have zero coordination in anything they attempt. I love the girl next door look too... when you live next to a methadone clinic.

Is this to the perspective of a WWE fan b/c I totally disagree about the personality thing...I know a lot of girls with some serious attitude....

The WWE fans need them all to be clearly defined characters and rolled into one neat package delivered straight into their TV sets. The Shimmer girls all have great characters with plenty of personality. Dave knows what he is doing, he uses them all very well... He gets "it" and produces some of the best indy wrestling product in the industry.

But the thing is...many of the Divas have either too little or the same character to me. It's pretty categorized to me...
1. All-American Girl/ Plain Face 2. Plain Heel
3. Bitch Heel
4. Comedy-Jobber Heel
5. The rare Dominating Heel
6. "Hot" Chick (my archenemy lol) - Pretty much ultimately wraps up everyone to an extent.

All of WWEs current roster are one or two dimensional adhering to the list you just gave. As simple as they all are they are clearly defined characters and easily accessible to a wide audience. Indy wrestlers can do what that want and make their character as complex as they deem necessary. Wrestlers don't have that freedom in the WWE or TNA. It all depends on what the Boss or Writers are capable of creatively. Vince McMahon can make good simple characters with a broad appeal. TNA can't do ****! Russo has the creativity of one of those Dugongs on South Park who were writing Family Guy. EDIT: I think it says a lot about the wrestling industry when A guy like Russo can stay gainfully employed and also be branded a genius by some. The guy couldn't even make it as Uwe Bolls punching bag in Hollywood! I think some random Pakistani cab driver in New York could write a better script than him. Russo can't even format a script correctly(I've seen his pen work first hand) yet alone tell a half comprehensible story... and thats the truth! Get out of the bubble and you'll see it. I would laugh at Russo but I would rather shake my head. Russo is laughing all the way to the bank.

And a lot of fans would have first seen joshi wrestlers Mimi Hagiwara & Jumbo Hori in the 1981 film All The Marbles. I don't think it's racism. It's more like xenophobia. If you're choosing not to watch the best women wrestlers in the world just because they're not American, that's just stupid.

It's probably a mix or racism, sexism, xenophobia, it's something they have to seek out and anything non WWE. Different reasons for different folk. I don't think the majority of WWEs fans were even alive in the 80s lol. It was good seeing Trish on Raw I watched just for her and I guess a lot of other people did as well. Raws ratings went up. As soon as Gail Kim shows up I'll give WWE another chance for as long as I can stomach it.

I'll be honest. I don't watch joshi, but only because I don't know where to begin. I don't know what promotions are good, what wrestlers are worth following, even how to access the material without ordering dvds from Japan (which I can't afford on a grad student's stipend).
I think that's a lot of the reason it's not as popular as it should be. It's easy and reasonably cheap to watch the WWE; you turn on the cable channel at the right time, and it's there for you. The same cannot be said of Joshi.

The same cannot be said of Joshi. There's plenty of joshi on Youtube and especially Veoh. Just search for "joshi puroresu" and you'll have plenty to watch. Veoh is better because it accepts longer videos and you can download them. But it has geographical restrictions so I don't use it anymore. I prefer Viddler. Occasionally I post matches on my blog like the recent Fuuka/Mai Ichii shoot boxing match but I always have the Video Bar there so you can watch joshi right on the blog. I change the featured wrestler every week or so. Right now it's the evil Mayumi Ozaki. You can get so much for free that cost isn't an issue. frankp316.blogspot.com/EDIT: I have just posted video of Hiroyo Matsumoto's win of the JWP Junior & POP titles from Sunday's Ibuki show. Enjoy! frankp316.blogspot.com/2008/12/hiroyo-matsumoto-wins-jwp-junior-title.html
