This may seem kinda out of left field, but I figured I'd open a thread specifically for discussion of the WWE Divas/Women's Division.

We're all fans of women's pro wrestling here, and the WWE is the largest pro wrestling company in the world. Positive or negative, I think it would be interesting to have one central location here on The SHIMMER Forum to discuss what's going on in both WWE and their developmental system as far as the women go.

Considering we have three SHIMMER alumni currently on WWE television, we could be discussing the setting where members of today's SHIMMER roster will be plying their trade a year from now.

I'll get the ball rolling with the first question to pose to everyone for discussion. What do you think of Kelly Kelly upping her game recently?

Kelly Kelly is improving all the time from what I can see and comes across as someone who is dedicated and wants it. I think she could be the one to watch for the future.

I was thinking about which of the Divas I actually like. (When talking about Divas, I usually exclude Beth/Mickie/Natalya/Victoria etc.)

I actually came around to Maryse this week, she was pretty good on SmackDown I thought. Kelly's doing pretty well too. I'm still kinda bummed about how bad Candice has been getting on since she returned.

As far as Kelly Kelly goes that remains to be seen. She is now on RAW. the premier show. She has to set a standard. Back in 2003 Raw was made up of only Female wrestlers who could wrestle. It was not about Playboy back then. When Eric Biscoff was in charge Trish Stratus was competing in STREETFIGHTS and Lita was in the one and only Female Cage Match to ever appear on Raw. During Wrestlemania time frame some talentless Diva/Bimbo always poses for Playboy to make themselves famous. It would be an insult to Kelly Kelly's wrestling career if she poses for Playboy next year. Remember Trish Stratus and Lita were huge stars back then without playboy. And Micki James and Beth Pheonix are huge stars now without the use of playboy. If Kelly Kelly wants to be a huge star she needs to follow in Micki and Beth's footsteps not Ashly and Maria's.

I always liked Maryse ever since she was feuding with Michelle for the Divas Championship. I think she has been steadily improving as a wrestler and she is great at playing the arrogant heel.

nope it sure is not - just figured if there was going to be a thread about a company that has former shimmer women in it, there would be a thread about a company that has current roster shimmer woman in it. Just thought it was odd to see a WWE thread

Maryse is a good worker. I'm not confusing that with being a good athlete or wrestler. But she has really good mannerisms, facial expressions and body language. I find her to be entertaining.

Kelly Kelly, as a worker, is kind of one-dimensional. But I think that suits her role just fine. Her athletic improvement is noticeable, and I find her to be fun to watch in short, obviously well-planned and rehearsed bursts.

I don't think it's necessary to separate the former indy talents (or respected in-ring performers) on the roster from the former models. They are all Divas. It's just a brand name. In fact, where would that leave Melina? She's a former indy talent whose gimmick is that she is a "diva.'

Kelly improving? She learned a few moves and uses them in EVERY match. the spinning rana, the arm drag thing, the leg flip, the tag in with a sunset flip. She's not that impressive yet. This character development with Kane will have me be more interested with her.

I'm not happy the way that the wwe is misusing Katie Lea. I'd like to see Katie Lea feud with Beth over the wwe woman's title. I remember when that they had a major feud in ovw a couple years ago over the ovw woman's title.

I agree. I'd like to see Katie Lea used more. It's not from SHIMMER bias though. I've seen her in a lot of OVW clips. She's very good at interviews as well as wrestling. For a time she even had her own Piper's Pit / Highlight Reel type of segment.

Where can I start...
I recognize that Kelly's improving but I just don't like her because she relies a lot on rollups. That tilt-a-whirl is annoying to me..it's too exaggerated but it was a satellite version then it would be awesome. She still has a long way to go, but I will say that she has athleticism. Plus I just love the fact that she gets more victories than Jillian, Victoria, and Natalya..

I just seem attracted to Maryse for some reason. I saw her in the Diva Search and I just wanted her to win (This was before joshi and SHIMMER btw). I can definitely go out there and say that she's the best used heel in SD and -dare I say it- the entire company. She too has a long way to go but I see improvement faster.

So when are they going to debut Gail Kim? She's apparantly been signed for awhile now, yet there's still no sign of her being put on television. I wonder what the hold up is.
