I think you are misinterpreting this. You would be surprised how many supposed wrestling fans watch only WWE and nothing else. They don't watch ROH, Shimmer, joshi or other Japanese wrestling, not even TNA. There's more out there than you think. I'm actually not surprised by that. I have noticed an almost resistant reaction to suggestions about trying something outside of WWE for any myriad of reasons from supposedly hardcore, long-time pro wrestling fans. In fact, some of them consider their regular viewing of Impact to be going against the grain. One of my favorite reasons I often hear or read from someone who "loves pro wrestling," but refuses to watch Japanese wrestling is because he cannot understand what the commentators are saying. I think that excuse is laughable... and flawed when you consider that we attend live shows where we hear no commentary. So I understand that perspective. Particularly when the person constantly complains about the presentation of women's wrestling in WWE or TNA and states that he or she wishes they would treat the divisions better... but won't give an actual women's promotion the time of day. Those closed-minded fans are out there in droves, and kind of just have to be left to their own miserable devices. One of the disservices we as fans of alternative pro wrestling, often do for those other niches in the genre is when we come across as too preachy, overbearing or fanatical. We forget that, our perspectives aside, for example, SHIMMER or joshi puroresu are only better than the Divas and Knockouts in our opinion. In reality, it's only different. Guys who whine about Japanese commentary in joshi are making excuses. That's not the real reason. You can guess the real reason. |

I actually like the commentary ;D It sounds like gibberish but in the good way, I can hear what I want to hear...

Oh and let me guess the reason......they cringe b/c the likes of Aja Kong and Dynamite Kansai aren't hot. I laugh at this reason b/c Aja and Bull Nakano was in the E 13-15 years ago and JBA and the Crush Gals were in the 80's and should the F back then had kept the ball rolling and the things that happened didn't......the Divas probably wouldn't be as they are today. Or at the very least the standards would have been raised (which is just as good)
They also say that joshi's too stiff, the girls are too crazy, there are no storylines, they don't wanna watch "men" wrestle...blah

It was so good to see Trish return on RAW tonight in Toronto! Who else would love to see Trish vs. Beth at WM 25? And in the pipedream department, has there ever been any dialogue about bringing Trish in for one Shimmer taping? I'm not sure if she has been WWE property this entire time since her retirement or if she works per appearance or on some type of short term deal with Titan. how about Trish- Daizee vs Rain & Jetta then after the intermission Trish vs Sara Del Rey |

They probably also forgot that it was the "ugly people" who got that division off its pacifier..  Jazz, Luna Vachon, Nakano, CHYNA (who is praised like a goddess), etc. They carried the "hot ones" to popularity and watchable matches. I remember Jazz just as much as Trish b/c Jazz whooped on the blondie in a really good feud. |

But seriously, I've always wondered how well she and AD would mesh. |

Some say the same stuff about some of the tougher SHIMMER girls too...... I showed my "friend" (who was more of a red-blooded Diva fan) the other SHIMMER site and understandably he cut out the likes of SDR, Jezebel, and CLM (with the bad haircut). But he could not resist the Lovely Lacey. (But he crossed that fine line when he dissed Rain and Jetta  ) So overall he didn't like SHIMMER at all by basing it on looks alone. His reaction totally changed when I told him about WEW though... |

When I see people on other forums who diss female indy wrestlers because of their looks, I politely remind them that if it weren't for the WWE more than half Divas wouldn't look so modelish as they do now. Then I follow that up with a pic of Mickie James before she went to the "E". |

No....I was saying that a good portion of the fanbase either don't care that much or complain about how bad a match/a wrestler was....only to go right back the next week. So when the division seems so bad to where they really start burning up, they still go right back without making any effort to look elsewhere Most people do not want to pay hundreds of dollars in DVDs to follow niche wrestling products. Well I don't exactly have all 20 SHIMMER dvds but I still follow it very closely to the point where I worship about every one of the girls and honestly you don't have to really buy much of anything to follow another promotion except for those that have their shows solely taped for DVD i.e. SHIMMER, WSU, WEW etc., (and some of them, you can find on youtube) there's loads of media sources and forums out there to get a fix, you just have to look...... |

Well I don't exactly have all 20 SHIMMER dvds but I still follow it very closely to the point where I worship about every one of the girls and honestly you don't have to really buy much of anything to follow another promotion except for those that have their shows solely taped for DVD i.e. SHIMMER, WSU, WEW etc., (and some of them, you can find on youtube) there's loads of media sources and forums out there to get a fix, you just have to look...... Not legally. It's DVDs, VOD, and the occasional PPV. Just about everything else is either illegal distribution. And I'm not going to follow other promotions based on a bunch of "music videos", no matter how good they are. Oh, and reading show results is not "getting my fix." |

It sounds like your "friend" is in an infinitesimal minority about how the SHIMMER women look, just like billiken is in an infinitesimal minority in his opinions on anything. There are many gorgeous women on the roster and I'm sure anyone straight would agree. Myself, I prefer women who are athletic and have a girl next door look. Not plastic models who have zero coordination in anything they attempt. |

He is! He prefers Playboy and WEW descriptions rather than what's in the real world... Personally I find a lot of them to be downright gorgeous thus I wouldn't go through the trouble of making my wrestling centerfold pieces.....

Ha ha, that was great stuff (her WEW & early ROH matches were good as well) sadly the OVW videos became rare back in 06 when i was collecting tapes & DVDs that had her pre-WWE matches. |

I think Melissa and Rain are much more beautiful than, say, Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool. Here's the thing. The SHIMMER girls are not scrubs by any means. There are some very attractive women on the roster. However, they can also wrestle their ass off. The Divas, it's hard to say who is a good wrestler there because they aren't allowed to be wrestlers. When you don't allow your women to wrestler longer than six minutes, it's hard to judge their ring skills. And as long as the fans eat it up and pop for the Kelly Kelly's and Candice Michelle's of the world, nothing is going to change. |
