What can I say? If it's good, it's good. It's for the joshi wrestlers, so as long as they like it that's all that matters to me. And the word is, they LUV it!

I have seen the light. The goal is to put over the fans with royalty free work, and to eventually try to get the wrestlers themselves to buy these DVDs. I hope the matches are better than this concept; trying to get the money they paid to the wrestlers back.

You don't seem to know much about the Japanese companies you name dropped or SHIMMER for that matter. I think perhaps you should watch more, and save the strong opinions for when your knowledge has expanded a tad bit.

I have no problem with cartoon stuff being on the DVDs. I like the idea of illustrated covers and different styles of artwork put to use. Raven's cover for Volume 24 is good and everyone likes the watercolor effect for the new Volume 31 cover. I showed the Bash '87 cover art for the Betamax tape I own here on the board. All of the Chikara DVDs I have are illustrated. The Royal Rumble 1991 and 1992 covers with the paintings of wrestlers marching down the street like "The Warriors" are awesome. Survivor Series 2004's DVD was mentioned. I really like that new ACW 2010 Queen of Queens DVD cover with the "Alice in Wonderland" stuff too. Concerning this, I have nothing against the artwork itself. More power to any fans who want to contribute artwork or bring signs to shows, because I always do. It's better than just being there holding your chair down. I feel the point of signs is to show support for the person coming out. For those who don't know the artist of this disc and Billiken held up almost identical signs for every joshi wrestler's match on all 4 DVDs, Hiroyo took it into the ring after her final match, and it got put over. The same artwork from those signs being put on the official SHIMMER DVD makes it seem like the fans did not make those signs (especially when a lot of our same faces are seen attending all these tapings). That's what bothers me, because I've spent a lot of hours drawing stuff in the past. When I went to Chikara in Taylor, MI they passed out neckties during intermission to toss into the ring for Bryan Danielson's introduction like streamers. I don't like the idea of a wrestling company trying to gimmick the fans, even though that's not what's being done here, it could be misconstrued. ACTUALLY the artist couldn't make it to the show. But he'l be there in september. Maybe with laser beam sharks to fend off DA H8RZ

You don't seem to know much about the Japanese companies you name dropped or SHIMMER for that matter. I think perhaps you should watch more, and save the strong opinions for when your knowledge has expanded a tad bit. Name dropped? Comparing the showcase of athletes in quasi-realistic matches to PRIDE's overlay of finely tuned fighters is hardly a deep investment into this cyber discussion. I don't have a stake in SHIMMER's success or the DVD marketing. I hope for the best, I'd like to see more. I'll most likely buy this volume in another set on Ebay or from my neighbors at Highspots. Or should I name drop the WFU grad who runs the place? That's silliness. It's not a troll comment or an outrageous thing to say. These are valid comparisons. I don't think Sara has a leg that will send you to the morgue but it makes sense. I don't pretend to be an expert around here. A pro would have split the minute the action started. Now... I don't want you giving me the speech one time, or testing your jits on me. But, I would like to think enough from seeing SHIMMER for 3 years that they actually put the events on the ROH calendar. Perhaps, there is enough respect between ROH and its female branch not to run a live PPV the same night as a DVD taping. I'd rather be able to enjoy both. Wouldn't you like to enjoy Prazak's commentary and his presence at the afterparty? At the same time I think more of SHIMMER's on the fact they encourage a global base to their show in real time, and book it in concurrence. I also truly enjoy the photogenic athletes and the way they encourage fans to participate with digital cameras unlike that silent partner where Dave keeps his gold boat. Enjoy your DVD. But, if you tell a friend SHIMMER is as good as some other full contact company... are you name dropping it? This isn't your personal war, I love SHIMMER too. I do think it would have been a clever twist to call the DVD some sort of "Japanese Import Edition" with the tribute disc art and the additions to the roster. That's a quirk that covers all the bases. But, don't let me name drop any countries like that. You might get the idea I wasn't referencing the empire of Japan, and I actually meant how they are personally attached to my life.

Haha, what a strange thread this has turned out to be.
Knowing now that the animated wrestlers on the disc were fan art (great idea!), I have a much different perspective on the overall piece. I liked the art overall before, but now I love it. Nice work shupercousin, I hope to see more of your stuff featured by Shimmer down the line. Just brainstorming now, what if Shimmer featured fan art for all of the disc art from now on? There would be a very creative and unique fan/organization interaction.

I love the artwork on the cover & the disc. I think it's fantastic that the Joshi women loved the art and that, in turn, led to it being on the disc. Some people will never be satisfied. Oh well - Dave, please don't change a thing! After all, given that we're coming up on tapings for Volumes 33 - 36...you must be doing something right. ;D

After reading the thread I have NO idea how anyone could logically conclude that Shimmer plants signs just because the DVD artwork is the same as a sign featured on the batch. Especially since the signs came before the DVD artwork. That's just a bit of reaching. I get it if people have some weird aversion to drawings on srs srs wrestling (that has never claimed to be srs srs) but to say that it could possibly give people the impression that Shimmer "plants signs like TNA' is a bit out there. Can't people just appreciate/respect the fact that it's a fan contribution and that it's a really touching moment in shimmer history? Or at least be happy for a fellow fan instead of trying to tear it down because you weren't included? Well, you know what they say. ..gators gon' gait just like haters gon' hate.

So if Chikara's DVD features a shot of neckties thrown in the ring, you would never suspect the company set it up before hand? With news the WWE filtered signs at the door for Summerslam its now on anyone's mind as to whether or not signs at any given event are planted. They give out those Rey Mysterio hoods, Sting masks, and various pieces of the crowd's love for the show throughout the time everyone here has been viewing wrestling.
So, yes if the company gave the signs to the fans to hold up, they would indeed be responsible for their own artwork once it's released. The same concept applies to Chikara planting gimmicks in the crowd. If they later use the crowd's interaction with neckties as a DVD art, cover, or some marketing tool to show how original you should be when you go... then ya been swerved.
Any chance that the old mailers or some special photo/collectible inserts would be part of these releases? Or even a limited and/or random part of the first ones sold?
