The Best Female Wrestler award was just announced, and after a mammoth record breaking year, Nicole finished... second. Behind KC Spinelli.

To be fair, KC deserved it moreso than Nicole.
Yes Nicole had a stellar year with a near year long reign as champion, but KC ended up dethroning her and improved immensely from when she first started off.

Is it controversial to say that Nicole is more talented that Portia?

Is it controversial to say that Nicole is more talented that Portia? Depends how you define talented. Nicole has more of a highlight reel-type repertoire, and has more of a swagger about her. However, Portia is your blueprint of the perfect heel, using cheap tactics, creating big heat and being the perfect foil for a babyface. It just depends on what your preference is, really. Which would I pick? Ooh, I couldn't possibly choose.

I'm not very good at keeping silent.
I agree with exactly what freaky is saying.
But, the term "highlight reel" kind of scares me because when I hear it - I think of "spot workers" - which would be a big sell short of Nicole's talents. I don't think this is what Lee's implication was at all, obviously. But it's what I would associate the term with.
I think Nicole works very very very smoothly in the ring from start to finish. She makes the contest seem completely woven together with big moves, great selling, and hard shots.
Because Portia isn't as tall as Nicole she's more limited. But her heelish tactics are more than just mic work. Her spot against Tenille when she takes 9 punches on the turnbuckle, sneaks out from under her, wabbles to the middle of the ring slowly, pointing to her brain to show how smart she is, and then gets nailed with a punch is a great example of that. I'm not sure if that's something she picked up from somebody else - but I don't remember seeing it before - and I'll never forget seeing her do it - that sequence is one of my very favorites of all time in pro wrestling.
If you watch Portia's matches with girls her height like Tenille and Serena, IMO, you'll find that those matches are the best, or at least are among the best, of those girls' contests.
It's comparing apples and oranges. In my belief Portia Perez is the most deserving heel who has ever stepped foot into the industry. But Nicole has shown consistent improvement on all fronts and I think you can credit Portia for rubbing off on her as part of the reasons that her promo segments continue to improve. I'm only on Volume 36, but it's certainly something to watch somebody improve with basically ever outing, after already establishing themselves as a major player.
::returns to enjoying SHIMMER in personal silence without bothering the board with my dreadful mouth and outrageous and unfiltered hit or miss commentaries, keeping it strictly positive, I can be a dumby, for sure::
