I think I'm a little burnt out on Melissa. I was a huge fan of her chase to the title againsy Eagles, but ever since she won the title the 2nd time she's been a bit disapointing to me. The heel turn completely refreshed her character and the matches with Hiroyo and Lufisto at the Autumn tapings in 2013 were fantastic. But now she's lost the belt, in a way which didn't even involve her which was a shame in hindsight, I just don't know what more she can do. Her matches on Volume 71 were amongst the worst of the night which didn't help. Of course when you have the incredible Athena/Yim bout on the card it'll always be hard to follow.
Nicole Matthews, Athena, Mia Yim, Evie, Candice LeRae, & Hikuru Shida. These are the women of the new Shimmer generation and I watch all of their matches in awe and want to see more of them and of course Nikki Storm who is a delight to watch.

Just reading the thread and saw this. I read another person's review of the show and they agreed Melissa's matches weren't great, but also didn't like Yim/Athena at all either.

She got more heat on Twitter on Shimmer Volume 71 than she has ever gotten; it seemed like a lot of comments were criticising her constantly, I'm surprised someone didn't complain because one strand of her hair was an inch longer than the rest of her hair. Are people just going to start blaming her for anything and everything now. 'I never got that bike when I was 10. It's Melissa's fault' 'I had to get unsalted peanuts instead of salted peanuts. It's Melissa's fault' I know KLR and Evie outshined her (Congrats to both of them for tearing the house down) and I was expecting her match with Havok to be like King Kong and Godzilla and from all accounts it wasn't so maybe they could've kicked the ever lovin' piss out of each-other before Melissa got the win but some people seemed to act throughout the course of the show that if Melissa went to them with a box of chocolates and an apology card they would still hate her. Her matches were terrible. With her quality reputation, the bad matches stand out even more and result in more disappointment. Chalk it up to a bad night, or blame it on the opponents and booking, but bad matches are still bad matches, and with a bigger spotlight on SHIMMER, there'll be more talk about them. And if you think they were fine, that's cool.

Agreed about the matches not being great, but there's probably only been like one other time that I've thought that since I've first discovered her work back 2008.
I have faith that, at the tapings in a couple of weeks, her matches will be better. Not ready to throw the towel in on my girl yet!

On paper "Melissa vs Havok" and "Melissa vs Yim" sound like main events that bring the house down. Mia Yim has already wrestled Cheerleader Melissa in the main event of Vol. 65. And it's a sure bet that Melissa will wrestle Havok at the upcoming taping, and they may slug it out all over the building. The focus of the tournament was to put over younger wrestlers like KLR, Evie or Nicole Savoy. So it makes sense to use Melissa's matches to build up a feud instead.
But that's smartmarkish "analyzing matches instead of enjoying the show." Melissa cheated, but who is Jessicka Havok to complain? She has a history of breaking every rule in the book herself. Havok's interference did cost Mia Yim and Cheerleader Melissa their matches. Maybe we should hate her instead of Melissa?

I hated her for years, then grew to quite like her towards the end of her last run as heel champion - she was just such an entertaining b*tch. That being said, I thought her two matches with Athena in October were awful.

My view - styles make matches, it take 2 to tango - cliches, but true, I find. I didn't care much for Evie vs Portia, though I like both of them quite a bit - it was just "meh" as it turned out. The same for Melissa vs Havok, except that I liked Melissa's work more than I did Havok's. Havok's problem for me is that she really has to be in full-on tank/destroy mode for me to enjoy her much, and Melissa wasn't going to allow that. The Su Yung/Havok match at the most recent Shine show was probably the most I've enjoyed a Havok match in a while. Su Yung also had a very good match with Allysin Kay in China. Somehow Su has been able to have really good matches with large powerful women without just being a rag-doll through-out. Melissa stays to the outside, looks for opportunities to break them down, which is smart strategy, but it doesn't allow for much physicality between them, so it's not as fun to watch.

I usually don't mind Melissa (and at one point I was even a big fan of her), but like many others I did think she had the worst performance on Vol. 71. I feel like she has just gotten stale. Basically, doing the same moves she has always done, but now she's doing them at a slower pace. I wish she would talk more **** to the crowd during her matches or something. With that said, I do think she'll do better at the Berwyn tapings, and her rematch against Havok will be better.

^ Ah sorry! I need to read more reviews of that show but I loved Mia/Athena. Both should be the Rock/Austin of Shimmer at this point I feel. As you said she doesn't talk **** to the crowd either. Maybe that's because she's never been the best speaker that she does't feel confident doing it? Her mic skills are what let her down too. I am a little bored of Mercedes too, but her mic work is so good that it keeps me entertained more. The only time I've really liked her heel run was when she shouted "I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" to Lufisto. Man that felt real!

I always got the vibe that the smiling thing was just trying to piss the fans off more, showing that she doesn't really care about what the think of her, like she's just laughing off what they think of her. I always thought it would be interesting if, for some reason, Danger returned in a managerial role to Melissa, Danger's phenomenal on the microphone and is a master of subtle facial expressions, I could just picture a backstage promo where Danger does all the talking while Melissa stands in the back with a cocky smirk on her face.

I have no idea how an Earth that could remotely happen given what happened in Danger's final match! If you wanted a manager to help get Melissa more over as a heel then there is only one option!

Any reason why Annie Social is the perfect choice? I'll be honest I haven't seen a lot of her work.
