I know of someone who got a $10 per day rental car for that weekend using the name-your-own-price gimmick on Priceline. And it just accepted $15 per day when I just tried it. If that's legit, nobody should say they can't get transportation to the shows!

The "winning bids" are a bit misleading, since they don't include the airport taxes and fees. But yeah, a three day, $15/day rental for a full size car comes out to right at $100 at ORD. Fit five people in there, that's under $7 a day per person. Check out recent winners here: www.priceline.com/promo/rc_winning_bids.html. Remember, start extremely low, and bid daily to get the lowest cost.

Sort of related question(s) for those who usually come from UK:
How much does stuff cost over there relative to here? More to the point, how much money would you suggest taking (assuming a decent amount of taxi travel will be involved, to be safe), and is there a certain way of taking it (all cash; cash/card etc) that works out best?
I have no idea how much I'm going to need to take to last me a whole week, and I don't want to starve to death before the tapings/not be able to afford any merch/a drink at the after parties.

Had to change my weekend plans, so I won't be seeing y'all in Berwyn next month. Even so I can really only expect to enjoy the saturday events.
That said, I'm still thinking of transporation to & from the airport/trainstation to the venue. Are taxis reliable or do people carpool? I'd be happy to chip in for gas in the latter case for the show-after-next.

I'm going to try that name-your-price bit. Thanks for the tip!

That Priceline.com "name your price" deal worked for me as well - $16/day plus $11/day insurance (I'm a worst-case scenario kind of guy so I'm always happy to have the insurance coverage).
So I'll be able to take 2-3 people from Rodeway Inn to see AAW on Friday evening and to the Shimmer shows on Saturday and Sunday.

stevea21 - Are you still looking for people, if so would I be able to take you up on that?
I'd be willing to throw you gas money (hell, I'll fill your tank up!) Were you planning on hitting the Shim after parties on Sat and Sun as well?

Yes, I'm planning on going to the after-parties, Sure Shot - consider yourself as having a solid ride to the events and the after-parties.

I'll be driving in from NY on Friday. I'm staying at the Rodeway and I'm going to both Shimmer shows. I can take a few people to and from shows. If anyone is interested, let me know.

For those who will be hanging out downtown next week, I want to warn you about the new Divvy bike share system, in case you're interested in using one. Don't give me wrong, the program is great, I use it all the time between work and Union. But just be aware that when you have a pass, you are limited to checkout a bike for 30 minutes at a time, and anything more will incurr overtime fees, I believe of $2 every 30 minutes. Basically, don't take the idea of purchasing a "24 hour pass" as being able to ride anywhere all day. It's really "unlimited 30 minute rides in a 24 hour window."
