For those that don't know, "less is more" is the philosophy that the less often a wrestler uses certain moves, the more impact they will have when they are used. For example, in Japan, Misawa and Kobashi's signature moves are Tiger Driver '91 and the Burning Hammer respectively. However, you can count on two hands the number of times either have used them because they only break them out for big matches. The result is the crowd going wild when they set up for these moves. Another example is the Undertaker's no-hands tope. It's a spectacular visual that would get old if he did it in every single match. But because he saves it only for special occasions, the crowd never knows when its coming and react huge when it happens. I'm seeing this same philosphy being applied in SHIMMER and it's better becasue of it.
1. MsChif's green mist: while it's one of her trademarks it's only been seen in two SHIMMER matches (vol.4 & Supercard of Honor) and both times it was used out of desperation. This makes the mist seem like a secret weapon to protect herself and not some gimmick.
2. Shantelle Taylor's handspring-elbow: she did not use this in her first two SHIMMER matches. But in her upper-card match against Cheerleader Melissa, she dazzled everyone (myself included) because noone was expecting it, and it made this big match that much more memorable.
3. Allison Danger's shimmering warlock: Danger will gladly take a quick win via small-package or roll-up. She'll only attempt the warlock when there's no other way to score the pin.
4. Cheerleader Melissa's kudo driver: all her opponents fight like crazy to avoid it because they know they're finished if she hits it. So even though it has yet to be executed, the fans understand how lethal it is.
Whether this kind of booking is intentional or not, it goes a long way in making SHIMMER that much more exciting to watch because it adds depth to the wrestlers and keeps their performances from becoming predictable.
