Ho do Indy and Mainstream women's wrestling help or hurt each other? Also what are some things you would like to see improved for both?
I thought I'd open this topic up for discussion seeing as WWE has had it's "divas revolution" and have been recruiting many women from the indies to help it's cause. Also TNA's knockouts division soared when women like Kong,Roxxi,Daffney and Taylor Wilde(to name a few) did their thing.
So what are you thoughts?

Indie helps Mainstream with talent, both to be signed to long term contracts and for small roles.
Can Indie hurt Mainstream, by delivering a better product, thus luring fans of women's wrestling away? I don't think that this happens more often than indie fans follow their favorite wrestlers, to see them in WWE. So, I guess not. (Is TNA still considered mainstream?)
In the past, bad Mainstream matches may have caused fans to stay away from women's wrestling alltogether, thus hurting Indie. But with the divas revolution, I think this is changing.
Mainstream may help Indie a little, with giving indie wrestlers some work and exposure, but I guess it's not that important for most. Is having the goal of going to WWE a factor?
What can be improved? It would help to see more fans interested in women's wrestling, both Indie and Mainstream. But how will you convince those who know it and still just care for men's wrestling?

[/quote] I def agree. Fans will start doing research on these people they are seeing and will see that shimmer exists, that Shine Exists and etc. That's pretty much how I discovered it.
I was at a point where I wanted to be into women's wrestling after WWE's RA era, and it just wasn't there. It was catfight after catfight and and endless supply of rollup pins. Then Serena Deeb showed up on Tv and shaved her head. And I thought to myself, "Who is this crazy woman shaving her head for Punk" I did some digging around and I was exposed to a world of women's wrestling I had never really seen before. And by that time also that's when I started to get into tna.

It works both ways as much as it pains me to admit. TNA, for example is basically useless at this point but once upon a time was the leader of the "big" organizations. To be truthful I don't watch WWE and if I want a certain dvd, like a revisionist history version of Mid South or World Class or whatever I'll buy it used so none of my dollars goes to the devil and his spawn. But I've heard its better due to what Death Rey has brought there as well as former Shimmerites Britani, K-Nox and Davina. Whatever. Does WWE going into 1985 mode again and signing everyone it can help the indies? How can it? Let's be honest about this. If before the last tapings they signed Athena, Matthews, Kana, Cherry Bomb, Melissa, Leva and Mia Yim all for example sure you could replace with younger talent but would it have improved the show? Of course not. I DO see the flipside (begrudgingly) in that if someone sees a WWE girl on TV and looks her up and sees she came from the indies LOGICALLY they should think "I'll look into the indies then" but with the tunnelvisioned "Sports entertainment" fan these days WOULD that happen? Not often enough. I don't mean for this to come off as butt kissing but let's be real here. Idiot magazines (Nikki Bella #1? Are you kidding me?) give all the credit to Stephanie and Paul LeMcMahon for revitalizing womens wrestling but think about the global impact Prazak & Danger truly had. If Shimmer never existed who in America besides super marks would have heard of K-Nox, Kana, Madison, Melissa, definitely Leva Bates, Sara, on and on and on and on. Yeah, I'm just a dumb loyal mark but it truly pisses me off that Shimmer draws less than 300 fans yet all you here about is WWE...blah....im going off on a rant again. I don't even remember what the damn question was.

The ability for indie wrestlers to get into the mainstream promotion is a good thing in that it opens up the ability for indie wrestlers to go and make a bit of cash. I would expect that at a certain point we'll be seeing a flow like we do with male indie wrestlers that get picked up by WWE. Some of them stay for a long time, some of them are let go and return to the indies, where they rejuvenate the scene by the performance skills that they picked up working for WWE.
I think it's a positive thing at the moment, though it could turn into its opposite, for a time, anyway, if EVERY great indie women's performer in sight were picked up by WWE. Then the Shimmer roster would either be a) second-tier wrestlers for a time or b) excellent women's wrestlers (mainly international) that have flown under the radar up to this point.
