Just watched this DVD. It was solid, though imo a step-down from 50 (well it would have to be, that card was stacked!). Athena vs Kana was probally the best match, but my expectations for it were perhaps never going to be reached. The main event was good as was Nicole vs Ohka, however I'm growing tired of the yaa/boo punching spot that is won by whoever screams the loudest and this match took it to a silly level when they no-sold larriets and big boots. It was nearly Davey Richards level bad. I also think Lufisto/Miz had a similar match earlier in the night that was better.
Cruise/Santana was fun. Santana impressed me on Vol 50 against Shazza and Cruise had her best match ever against Hiroyo. This was fun, but I've always felt Cruise sells too much and too well against smaller opponents. I want her to decimate them Amazing Kong style!
Rhia vs KC was the sleeper hit of the night, both women really impressed me.
One thing I really liked about this volume were the promos. Not all were great, I always cringe at Melissa's, but it was great seeing girls like Rhia, Davina, Veda and Courtney Rush get a chance to speak and put themselves over. I wasn't really too high up on Hiroyo when she arrived and infact it was her adorable promo she did in English against Madison that won me over so I applaud giving mic time to the newer women along with brilliant-as-always vets like Saraya. I knew Veda was a great promo from some of her AIW stuff, but here she does a great babyface while Courtney Rush just oozes charisma!
Lastly Taylor Made and Cherry Bomb are sooo much better heels. Did Bomb turn in the 4 way on 50? She came out slapping-hands, but during the match she really did seem to be acting subtley heel and the fans started turning on her as a result it felt like and then on 51 she comes out as a heel. I enjoyed the low-key turn there. As for Made she was quite bland as a face and now is fantastic as a bitch heel who just-won't-shut-up! It reminded me of Lacey. Seeing as some fans cheer the Ninjas, I think Made In Sin, along with Saraya, could very well be the best heels in Shimmer right now.

The Knight/Skater stretch of the main event was so incredible in making Skater as a future top girl in the company. Wouldn't say it was Flair/Sting like, but at the independent level, it's close. It certainly helped Tank going forward into the following tapings, making Volume 57 that much more special.
Kana/Athena was full of brutal kicks, with Athena matching Kana strike for strike. A hint of Del Rey in her thrust kick as well. I'm now more convinced than ever that when Chris Hero checked his moveset in at the NXT door, Nicole Matthews stole it. She had him beat for rolling elbow attempts against Ohka, and her bridge is still the best in wrestling. And Ohka's face kicks in the corner are still as vicious on DVD as they were live.
For the rest of the show, LuFisto/Mizunami was an incredible little battle with more fire than the rest of the card to that point, there was another great performance by Hamada against Perez, Courtney Rush continued to bloom, and KC Spinelli was very impressive against Rhia O'Reilly. Enjoyed the ReX/Made in Sin tag as well.

For that match in particular I recommend turning the commentary off and cranking the volume up LOUD. It's almost like being back there.
