Well, last night I was in a really foul mood. I've been struggling with quitting butts, quite mightily I may add, and I tried to cheer myself up by purchasing a Portia Perez Body Slam Challenge t-shirt. That worked for a little while, but I still couldn't sleep without a cigarette and I had thrown my remaining pack away.
So I went online, watched some youtube bits, and I've noticed that some of these girls have Amazon wish lists. Admittedly, sometimes I will do something nice for somebody else in an effort to cheer myself up. Usually works!
I sat there trying to decide, do I want to buy a gift for Cheerleader Melissa or do I want to buy a gift for Portia Perez? Being that I am a Pisces, I know a thing or two about Leos - and so the temptation to buy Melissa something was great, because I know how Leos (like herself) appreciate gifts.
But then I compared lists and Melissa wanted a bunch of things like make up and shoes. I told myself that I've bought enough women's shoes in my life, LOL.
Portia, on the other hand, wanted things like DVDs and Captain Crunch Cereal. The decision was obvious, and I went with shipping 4 boxes of Captain Crunch and a House Series 7 DVD to the Canadian Ninja.
I'm in the midst of a SHIMMER all volumes marathon, and after watching her try to spear a prego Allison Danger, I figured the girl deserved it.
And the thought of her happily finding Captain Crunch in the mail satisfied me enough to fall asleep and end my vicious nicotine fit. Ha. Hopefully she will enjoy some television and cereal on me!
But my question is, does this make me the ultimate fan boy loser? Or is it just a nice gesture? I'd probably do it again if I needed some cheering up. These girls are obviously underpaid in terms of what they sacrifice and do, and I figure it's best to give back to the performers and to SHIMMER in every way possible.
But, I kind of feel like a fan boy.

If buying stuff from Amazon Wishlists for women's wrestlers makes someone a loser, then you are looking at the ultimate loser.
No lie, in 2011, I must have spent close to $1,000 buying stuff for people like SDR, Portia, Allison Danger, Leva Bates, Candice Larae, Buggy Nova, Jessicka Havok, Allysin Kay, and Sassy Stephanie. I've also donated to various charities that wrestlers like Melissa participate in. Then of course, there is merch sales from the wrestlers themselves and the companies they work for.
People have mocked me for it, but I don't care. I do it because 1) I have the money to do it, and more importantly 2) the girls deserve some recognition for the hard work they do. I don't drink, smoke, or anything other expensive habit, so I spend money on wishlists.
I'm probably not the normal fan though and I accept that.

Also, one thing I love about wishlists is how it can tell you so much about a person. Portia's wishlist is super nerdy. Buggy's is super sexual. SDR's is filled with gum.

I agree with you in that giving back is important, and if fellow fans mock you for it, that's just too bad. I can see why an outsider may be confused by it, because most people don't know what it is to have an appreciation for performers who aren't overpaid. But, who cares about outsiders?
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, but SHIMMER is bringing me a lot of peace lately. I remember the dreams I had as a sophomore in High School of becoming a hardcore garbage wrestler - probably because I didn't believe in myself enough to become a quality athlete - and then I look at the next 12 years of my life (I'm 28 now) and it's one big crazy rock n roll blur - sure, I've had a multitude of amazing experiences - but you can't party like a rock star for your entire life, you just can't. I wish I had the wisdom to go after my dream like these girls have done, rather than do what I did for the past 12 years - which again has been an incredible amount of fun. But everybody has their own paths in lives, and while I clean my mind and my life up, and while many of the people in my life change, SHIMMER serves like a rock of peace for me that I can turn to at any moment, and I have a deep appreciation for that.
And I hate to say it, and maybe it's just because I'm getting older, but I think SHIMMER has really transformed my view of women into something much less shallow than it was - and I didn't even realize how shallow it was before. Hate to admit it, but it's true.
Plus, after I win Powerball, I'm going to try to seduce Portia into marrying me. Hahaha.

I think people think equate buying stuff from wishlists to people going to strip clubs and buying stuff for strippers or whatever. Basically, there is this myth that if you buy something for a female wrestler, it must be sexually motivated in some way.
But, at least in my case, its couldn't be farther from that. Its simply my way to thanking them for a job well done. I think people forget what some of these wrestlers do. Long rides to shows for little pay in some cases. And then, they wrestle in front of small crowds a lot of times who might not care about their match because its "womens wrestling". And no matter how hard they try, it will never be on an equal level as the men.

Plus, imagine the guff they must get from the people in their lives who don't understand what they're doing or why they're doing it - especially for people breaking in - more so than somebody like Cheerleader Melissa - I mean that has to exist, and it's just another obstacle for them to overcome, but you figure at times it may wear on them a bit - and not all of their fans are really examples of appreciation, although many are.

A good question, though, is would you buy items off wish lists for your favorite male indy wrestlers (ROH, Chikara, whatever you're a fan of). Nothing wrong with buying stuff, but it's a good question.

Hmmm .. that's a tough one! What's your point? LOL.
Honestly, for whatever reason, be it timing or whatever, I've only seen clips of Ring Of Honor. Sounds crazy because I've been a fan for so long, but I hardly ever watched wrestling during my five years of college, and I'm pretty sure that's when ROH was getting off the ground. At that point, I was already jaded by what happened to ECW. I like to know the history of leagues, and with ROH being around so long now, and me so far behind, I've never exactly latched onto it. Plus, the whole handshake thing? What's up with that? Not my kind of professional wrestling.
As far as CHIKARA goes, I'll never be as big of a Lucha fan as I am a SHIMMER fan. Although I have a lot of respect and awe for their athleticism, it doesn't give me the same enjoyment. Then again, I've started forcing myself to watch youtube clips of the Osirian Portal, and it's just chalk full of pretty impressive spots. But, I think I've only watched two full CHIKARA matches. I think their presentation is crazy good, and very alluring, and when I finish catching up with SHIMMER (just been a fan for a little over a month now), I certainly plan on buying CHIKARA products. And enjoying it on whatever level I enjoy it. (Which is certainly going to be less than SHIMMER, but in all probability higher than the current WWE product, which I'm basically hating more and more.)
So, no, I won't be buying any gifts for Ophidian anytime soon, if that's actually what you're asking me.
That being said, I used to go to ECW shows a lot in middle school and high school. If times were different and I was the age I am now, back then, would I buy stuff for whichever guy I was marking out for at the minute, be it, Bulldozer For Hire Brian Lee, or Blue Meanie or even Scott Levy, despite knowing he's gay, or whoever else. I'm actually pretty confident that I would.
But I would never like ECW more than SHIMMER. I think I'll keep the wishlisting for whatever is my favorite brand at that time. That will probably always be SHIMMER. Maybe it has a little bit to do with the roster full of beautiful women, but I know for a fact it has as much to do with the old school style feel of it. And in the case of ECW, it would probably be more normal to buy those guys drugs, than it would be wish list items. Truth be told.
Not that I do drugs anymore (believable as that is,) but I have done drugs with famous rock bands like Phish, etc. and given the opportunity - at that point in my life (not very long ago) - to have been the one to bring those to the table, then yeah, I'd have bought drugs for rock musicians. Kinda similar to this. But rock musicians have also smoked their joints with me. Now, I'm fairly off topic.
If I could afford to buy every wrestler whose work I respected the things they wanted, then I would. But in this economy, if I want to feel good about myself by being generous to those I admire (note: my selfish heel tendencies) then I have to decide whose the most freakin' awesome. Simple answer: Portia Perez.
If Prazak had a wish list, I'd probably get him something small, at least. LOL.

I have. This past week, I bought one Robert Evans/Archibald Peck the complete Walker: Texas Ranger series on DVD. I also bought stuff for Gregory Iron too.
Very few guys seem to have wishlists though.

I'd check out Gregory Iron's wish list, for sure. I always dream book him in my Royal Rumble, but WWE is so bad these days that even my dream booking isn't fun.
Actually, I've liked a handful of their pay per view matches, but the weekly television can be awful.

You gotta admit, she's freakin hilarious to listen to, "Chains are okay, that's no problem ... It's fine, Bryce didn't even see it." No lesser than Bobby Heenan! Gotta love a perfect, albeit playful, heel. She's got an amazing mind/personality/mouth for the business, important components that are all too often missing in the big leagues. She's gorgeous too, but I'll refrain from elaborating on that, because my appreciation stems mostly from the other things I mentioned, along with her in ring work.

Check Cheerleadermelissa.com and portiaperez.com. Not sure how often they update them. If you have other favorites, Google their names to find their websites and there's usually a link right on there to the amazon page.

Portia explains Jetta's rake to Nikki Roxx's eyes:
"Have you seen how much Nikki Roxx sweats? Jetta was just trying to wipe the sweat out of her eyes so that she could see better."
Yeah, that one's going into my notepad of classic Portiaisms ... Just kidding, I don't have one of those ... yet. The girl is pretty much a genius. Confirmed.
Best heel ever!
