Just curious if anyone has attended Shimmer that lives in Iowa. I'm wondering if I should drive out or take a flight out to the tapings. The ones in March will be my first. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Road trips can be fun, if you have a reliable car.

Name: Paul Attending shows: Both Ability to rent and drive a car: Planning to drive there Knowledge of the Chicago area: I know how to get from the Rodeway to the Eagles Club and the after party. Best way to contact (E-Mail, or Private Message): PM Other: One friend will probably ride up from NC with me. As in September, I will be happy to give people rides to the show and after party, and I'll try not to fall asleep in the parking lot next time. Hi Hi Paul: You gave us a ride last time, right before you fell asleep in the car ;-D Glad to hear you'll be back to SHIMMER. I'm sure I'll see you there! Hey are you staying at the Rodeway Inn?? Did you get your tickets also already? What seats do you have? CHECK YA LATER! Shupercousin aka Michael (the skinny Asian guy with glasses)

Rodeway is the plan, though I haven't made a reservation yet. We got GA tickets, but we'll try to sit in the same section again.

Believe I'd be the one to help here. Whereabout in Iowa? Des Moines area. Oh that's nothing then. I used to have to drive 3 hours just to get to Des Moines before onto Chicago for 8 hour trips. Figure security checks, plane loading, flying, unloading, getting a car, it'll be about the same time. Save yourself the money and extra hassle just by driving.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My dad's family is from Iowa... does that count? Seriously, though, I'd drive. I'm in north Alabama, and the drive for me from home to Chicago is about ten hours, absent stops to re-fuel, eat or stretch my legs for a minute. I've made the drive once before (July '08) but I typically fly in. For me, though, flying in means driving one-fifth of the way to Chicago to catch a reasonably priced non-stop flight out of Nashville, then renting a car at Midway Airport. So for me, flying only saves me a few hours each way, driving there is cheaper, I don't have to worry about what I can and can't pack for the trip, I'm not as limited on what I can bring back, I don't have to worry about bringing the rental back fully fueled and unmolested and, tops on my list, I don't have to deal with Theatrical Security at the Airport.

That's a lot of my reasoning for driving vs. flying, even though I have airports much closer than you do. That drive is a chore, but overall I prefer driving to flying. Most of my family lives in Arkansas, and the drive from here to my hometown is about the same the drive to Chicago, so it's not something I haven't done several times before.

Date and Time: I will most likely start my drive up after I get off work on Friday, arriving at 9 or 10 PM in Chicagoland. Flying Home to: Driving back to central IL. Date and Time: Monday morning. Ability to rent and drive a car: I will have my personal car with me all weekend. Knowledge of the Chicago area: Moderate. Best way to contact (E-Mail, or Private Message): PM Other Information: I haven't made arrangements for a hotel room yet, but usually I stay at the Super 8 in Bridgeview and drive in. I've got room for three in my car, and I'm always willing to help out.

American Airlines is promoting a sale. They use ORD, and apparently they're not being listed on other travel sites, so considering going to their website at aa.com.
