So, so sad about Portia. She's been my favourite wrestler, male or female, since I first got into Shimmer. I do hope that despite all her bad actions she gets a heroes exit. I also hope she super kicks Nicole Matthews in the mouth to end the weekend. I hope she does too! I was watching the video that Shimmer just posted on their Youtube channel and at the end with Nicole and Portia (I'm guessing that took place after Nicole lost the title to Eagles) and with the way Nicole was sitting; I was legitimately expecting Nicole to just explode and scream at Portia. Poor Portia though; it seemed like she was just a kid who was desperate for attention and trying to please Nicole; it was almost endearing. Nicole's a major dick right now. Portia has been such a babyface to me for a while. I think this weekend either ends with Portia FINALLY having enough of Matthews or Nicole becoming an even bigger heel and throwing a fireball at Perez.

Maybe in the retirement match; Portia superkicks Nicole near the end of the match and leaves, allowing whoever's on Danger's team to pin her. I can remember when Portia was the dickish one of the Canadian Ninjas and now Nicole's even worse.

It ended up being DAIZEE HAZE and LEXIE FYFE on Danger's team along with Eagles and Skater (joined in a major surprise by TOMOKA NAKAGAWA), and LACEY joined Portia, Nicole and Kimber Lee. Portia originally won, but she was caught pulling the tights, and Haze pinned her when the match got restarted. Nice farewell, with Danger leaving Portia alone when she had the chance to strike, and Portia departing with "You guys all suck, I'm going to go home now."
78 had a great run of matches (Matthews/Yim, KLR/Kellyanne, Melissa & Ohka/Matsumoto & Makoto, Skater/Kato and Eagles/Savoy), but 79 had a massively over four way in Kay, Veda, Shazza and Yim. It stemmed from everyone hating Andy Long, Veda adding to the head, and the fans getting massively behind Shazza and Mia. Dobson/Saraya on that volume was intense too, with lots of crowd brawling.

Didn't Melissa show up at Portia's retirement; say that she was the OG of Shimmer and then just bugger off?

Didn't Melissa show up at Portia's retirement; say that she was the OG of Shimmer and then just bugger off? That's indeed what happened. Some are speculating that this could build to SHIMMER vs. STARDOM with Melissa's involvement in both promotions, otherwise it came off very odd and possibly was Melissa going into business for herself.

I loved the fact that Veda capitalized on the heat by going to hug Andy to really get the crowd rowdy. We were so loud the announcer had to wait till the crowd quieted down a little bit just to introduce Allysin Kay who almost got equal reaction. Then the roof almost came off with the finish. Definitely the loudest and longest I've heard and proud to be a part of it.

and Portia departing with "You guys all suck, I'm going to go home now." I was frustrated by that finale. I'm kind of new to attending wrestling shows, is that how heels usually retire? Nakagowa (deservedly) got champagne and streamers, Portia got diddly. Love her, but the Cheerleader Melissa promo rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe Portia was more friendly/talkative at the after-events. I went to Cigars & Stripes but it was soooo crowded I didn't stay long. I always say I'm going to go to Paisans but then I always feel drained after watching two days worth of wrasslin'.

Airborne, my friends, Airborne - take it daily. It won't hurt and it should help to at least lessen the effects of whatever bugs are flying around that room. Science shows Airborne does nothing.

Great weekend... enjoyed it very much as always but unlike Danger & Nakagawa, Portia's impending retirement was unknown going into the weekend and I have to admit the announcement took quite a bit of wind out of my sails. I'll get over it I suppose and will continue to enjoy Shimmer, but it'll never be the same.

It's an old-skool way for a heel to retire, as opposed to breaking character and doing some "oh, I really appreciate the fans" routine, and I respect Portia for sticking to her old-skool principles.

I have no idea what exactly happened, but at the start of the four-way, it was like someone flipped a switch and the crowd went bonkers the rest of the show. Easily the loudest I've ever heard the Eagles club. Perfect timing too, that's about the point the crowd usually dies down for the weekend. It was great.

While I felt bad for Andy for getting so much heat, they need to make sure in the future that so much controversy is not going on a ref unless it's intentional. All the matches he officiated had something happened, especially that tag match with Melissa/Ohka with the whip at the start of the match, and him just standing there like "Okay, keep wrestling." got everybody irate and the tapings continued. This is, in my perspective based on the reactions from the crowd, what carried over into the match and Veda adding more fuel to the fire. Based on how wild it got, you would have thought it was Wrestlemania at the Berwyn Eagles. The fact that the announcer and the roster validated we were one of the (if not the loudest, can't remember because we were still loud) crowds ever just makes me proud to witness the spectacle of how a crowd can unite against one (this case, Andy Long).

It's funny that I see comments in various places that "That wouldn't happen if Bryce were here". I remember similarly egregious reffing by Bryce, holding the babyface team to "clean" rules during a match that was specifically stated as No-DQ, for instance. I was glad to see Andy get what he deserved, but he's not the only ref that has done that crap. As Rich said above, it was a great energizer for the crowd so I suspect that we'll continue to see reffing that we can exercise our outrage about.

I was rewatching the early Shimmer tapings and Bryce was awful on two concecutive volumes, either 7-8 or 8-9 with the incosistent rules benefitting the heels but punishing the faces. The Melissa/Mchif vs Lacey/Rain tag match had be pulling my hair out at how he stopped Melissa entering the ring, just seconds after allowing Rain to enter without a tag and then counting her pinfall attempt. He also then refused to count a double pinfall attempt which completely killed the hot tag. Andy has history however and he took the heat from PJ Drummoned when he accidentally prevented Lufisto from diving to the outside prompting a "I hate you!" from Lufi. I wanna say that was at the 23-26 tapings?
