Also it's different at Shimmer in that you have the after parties to tell Melissa and Veda how much you enjoy their heel work without having to cheer them during the shows. Or if you can't make the after parties then tweet them your support. I've been meaning to ask, I've never been to a Shimmer show thanks to college commitments, lack of money and a fear of flying from Newcastle to Berwyn but apparently the after-parties are just as entertaining as the shows themselves.

I wouldn't say they were as much fun as the shows. But it's still a great time. You get to hang out with fellow wrestling fans and talk to the wrestlers and have a drink. I went to my first shows back in October last year and was perhaps a little starstuck so I didn't get to chat to too many of the wrestlers, but even still the ones I did talk too were all great. I managed to get photos with Shida, Kana, Su Yung, Matsumoto, Nikki Storm and a photo with both Melissa and Lisa Marie Varon. Lisa was so generous and after seeing the photo of me, her and Melissa said it wasn't good enough, grabbed my phone, turned the flash on and insisted that another one was taken so I had a better photo to keep. It was an awesome gesture that was small for her, but I thought was very kind and cool. I also got to have quick jokes with Mercedes and the Kimber Bombs. Mercedes had fans copying her pose at the entrance way all weekend and she kept changing it up to troll them and I told her that was hilarious and we jokedabout that. In the Kimber Bombs last match Kimber Lee told Cherry that she had a plan... which backfired in spectacular fashion so we joked that Cherry should be the one to call the shots as she's the brains of the outfit. Really fun times and the pizza and Lisa's place (the squared circle is the perfect name for a wrestling themed pizza place) was delicious. You should go. If I can fly out from England and others from Germany you can too. I would suggest staying at the Rodeway Inn too as you'll meet so many fellow Shimmer fans and quickly make friends. I'm gutted I haven't been able to go in 2014.

I'm gutted I haven't been able to go in 2014. If I did go I'd probably be a dick and pour Tim Hortons coffee into a Starbucks coffee cup, hand it to Eagles and then see her reaction. I've literally always been nervous about meeting famous people, especially if they're really sweet, like I'd probably be trying to talk to Melissa or someone and I end up jabbering and stammering like a fool and the main reason why I've never been to a proper Shimmer show is my college commitments, that's kinda dominating my life but one day I hope I get to go.

After speaking to a couple you'll be okay! I didn't mention how awesome Su Yung was with everyone and being the literally the last woman there doing photos on the Saturday with fans despite suffering an injured arm.
The person I really wanted to talk to was Dave. I found the whole shows fascinating as Rush, Athena, McKay, McKenzie, O'Riley, Deeb, Ayumi, Kong, Kalamity & Danger were all fairly big parts of the Springs tapings that were unavaliable for the Autumn ones due to retirements, injuries etc so I imagine that was a headache. It looked like the shows were going to have Hamada seeking revenge on Melissa, but then she too couldn't make it at the last minute! Then we all assumed the final match of the shows was going to be Melissa/Mercedes vs LuKana, but then Melissa got busted wide open and had to miss her first shows forcing things to change again. I wanted to ask him how much of a struggle things were as I imagine while he's stressed for a lot of the shows this set of tapings must have been up there with Volumes 3 & 4 for him.
Sadly I only got to ask him one question- "How much of a hard time did you have booking these shows?" and he amusingly replied wearliy "You have no idea!"

If Dave wasn't a wrestling promoter I think he'd be a pretty good stand-up comedian.

Su is one of the sweetest people and really appreciates what she does. One night we were randomly both up at 3a and we spent at least a half hour tweeting WWF No Mercy 64 jokes at each other. I think one of the best parts of following indie wrestling right now, is most of the fans and workers grew up watching similar shows and playing the same games, et cetera. Definitely get out to a taping if you get a reasonable chance. Melissa is a good conversation, she'll steer the wheel if you really go off on a tangent.

I'd love to go, it's really reassuring to know that Melissa is really chilled out to talk to, everyone's always said that she's really awesome to have a conversation with. Allysin Kay is apparently really awesome to talk to as well although as a Brit, I must admit that British class has nothing on Detroit class.

For what it's worth I just watched the Regeneration-X vs Hamada/Melissa tag match and I think Danger was a bit of a dick for mentioning the injury the way she did. "My collar bone you broke five years ago dummy!" A bit tactless. I also don't have a problem with Meliisa targetting the injured bodypart at all either despite Dave's commentary. It's what happens after the match what turns her heel for me and her beatdown on Leva and Danger on the following volume.

If Danger didn't want to get herself hurt then why did she get in the ring to wrestle? It was hardly Melissa's fault if Danger wanted to put herself at risk like that.

Targetting an injured bodypart is just a good tactic. Keeping the hold locked in after the match and trying to injure your opponent, in her last match no less is terrible though. Then you beat her down and put her life at risk on the following volume. No, just no. However during the match itself I have no complaint.

Well....when the venue was 39ten. One of the after parties got so crazy and hysterical that Dave sent someone to get a video camera and recorded everything. Paisans is a good place with only complaint being them shutting down a little earlier than we're used to. It's nice to talk to the ladies about their matches. They, including Dave, love getting feedback and aren't afraid to pick your brain. It's no secret that Melissa is my favorite wrestler, but she was never a heel at any of the tapings I've attended. So yeah, having to boo her next spring will be quite a change lol.

I've also just noticed. Mel is the sanest person to hold the Shimmer Championship, MsChif and Saraya were already nutty before they got the belt and Eagles started to go bonkers over the belt, Melissa never really seemed unstable during her run as the Shimmer Champion and even when she lost it she didn't have a meltdown like I thought she would, I thought she would've destroyed the whole Eagles Club.

She did immediately make sure that Athena didn't win the title, though.

Also, I don't exactly hold someone's sanity in the highest regard when they're Curb Stomping people into guardrails, continuing to beat up people after the match and especially attacking stroke victims and targeting their heads where brain lesions lie.

Didn't Del Rey go crazy after she lost the belt? Also Melissa has pretty much always been like that, even as a face, apart from the attacking stroke victims of course.
