Stephie is part of a storyline, aligned with Havok, which started at 53 and continued in Berwyn. She won one match this past weekend and lost one match this past weekend. Half of the wrestlers on a show win, the other half lose. The match you are referring to was Thunder Kitty's only win. It established a new character that people enjoy. I don't see a problem.

She won the tag match and lost the singles. Steph doesn't seem to win unless its in a tag match or against newcomers, the match with TK making that last point moot. As a fan it's frustrating to me. Your mileage may vary.
I missed October's SPARKLE so I don't know how the crowd reacted to TK then. It seemed odd to me how over she was given it was her first time on the proper show, but I chalked it up to local fans having seen her at Resistance Pro.

This past weekend was one of many firsts for me: flying out to Illinois, seeing my first indie show, and seeing the SHIMMER tapings live. There are so many things I want to say about this weekend that if I put all of my thoughts together in this one shot, it might be bothersome to any of the members of the forum who might want to offer their take on the recent tapings. I will say that after everything I've seen over the past few days and all the matches my dad and I took in, I would not trade this experience for anything else.
When I waited in line on Saturday, I didn't know how to approach the other fans in line, mostly because of my fear of rejection in the first words that come out of my mouth. Fortunately, the one person that I did talk to in line, Eugene, was kind enough to ease me out of my shyness and took me through a crash course of sorts on what to expect in the SHIMMER weekends. I admit, it was very surreal to be in the company of other people who share the same passion about professional wrestling that I do, maybe even more; at that moment, I did not feel like the guy who likes professional wrestling, I felt like I was part of this sometimes down-to-earth, but always passionate community of fans who love this sport. I never had the lingering thought that I was being judged for my love of wrestling this weekend, and I suppose it was through talking with some of the SHIMMER fans, from the guy that was slapped by Saraya in Volume 48, to the guy decked in Freddy Krueger attire who was kissed by Saraya on Sunday, that I never felt like I had to explain myself for my various interests, and I thank them for that. While I wish that I didn't spend so much time at the intermission rush fumbling for cash buying dvds and t-shirts at the merch table, it only added to my overall enjoyment of these past few days.
In the weeks leading up to seeing my first SHIMMER taping, I had hoped to be able to meet and hopefully talk at length with some of the more outspoken fans of SHIMMER such as Jen, themib, or any of the Ringbelles crew, and while I did get to see Jen at Athena's merch table on Sunday's intermission, and I did get to talk with themib about the entire weekend at the Sunday afterparty, I only wish that I had enough courage to ask what drives them to post about what they experienced without coming across to them as too enthusiastic.
One of the best things that happened to me this weekend took place at Sunday's afterparty. After spending time with Eugene Saturday trying to summon up the courage to approach some of the wrestlers for a picture, I wondered if my lack of confidence will still be an issue for me going towards the end of the weekend. It wasn't until I approached Kalamity and admitted to her my shyness and lack of confidence that things started to change for the better. After I got my picture with Kalamity, not five minutes later, she comes up to me with Pink Flash Kira and Angie Skye to check if I was still shy. It may not seem like a big deal to some, but the fact that she remembered that I was shy and was gracious enough to take another picture with me was both surreal and humbled by at the same time. While I was there, I got to say thanks to Allison Danger for everything she has done in wrestling and SHIMMER and that if I had to make my first SHIMMER tapings, I was glad that this past weekend was my first one.
My only real regret in the weekend was failing to ask Kellie Skater what it takes to be a Global Green Gangster. My other regret was meeting the fabled Cheesecake Guy, but because this posting might be going for too long, that can be saved for another post.
As I'm typing this back in California, if there was ever a time when I needed a confidence boost, this weekend of tapings gave me that boost in confidence not only in myself posting my thoughts in the forums and outside of being a fan of wrestling, but also in how I interact with other people, whether I'm in college or at home. To everyone involved in the tapings, whether it be the wrestlers, the referees, ring announers, or even the loyal fans that frequent the Berwyn Eagles Club for every taping announced, thank you for adding to this incredible experience! I hope to be able to fly out to Berwyn again for the next set of tapings and I hope to see you all again as well.

Can somebody fill me in on this Cheesecake Guy character? I realize we're making up names for stand out fans and regulars here, but I'm just curious. As for the shyness bit, I hear you about the new fan thing (sounds like me my first night) and if you're a big fan it can be intimidating to meet your "hero" in the flesh, but remember, you're not asking them out on a date, just a picture. This is part of how they make a living, so don't worry! Just be a polite person and you'll be fine. Some of the wrestlers may tease you (in character) but if anything, that should make it even more fun. As for talking to other fans, it's like, this is a niche of a niche, of a niche, so generally it's no big deal. Most of us know we're geeks/nerds/whatever. Even though there are some folks who get opinionated on the forums, I think in person people have been civil. Last show I arrived by myself and was a bit worried I wouldn't have anyone to talk to, but I was way wrong. In fact, the guy sitting to my right wouldn't shut up (not talking about you, Epic Fez Guy, I mean October's taping)! So you can get too much of a good thing. ;P Just treat others how you would like to be treated. Glad you enjoyed your first show!

That is a magnificent and erudite post, a1k3da. Thank you, it truly shows what a marvelous community this is. Not just random people that post on a board, but a community of individuals that share a common interest and will help each other out.

Aaron - You sound like me at my first SHIMMER tapings. ^_^ Shyness can be a hassle, it's been since Sept 2010, my first tapings, and I still have a hard time approaching even people I know for pictures and just to chat. Hopefully you can make it out again and bit by bit overcome it. That was a great post, thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us!

And Cheesecake dude is exactly what it says on the tin. He sells cheesecake and claims to have sold his wares to JWow and John Cena (he bragged to me about them last time, which I no-selled and told him bluntly that I didn't care), and Triple H was his latest customer this time apparently. His words were "Tell Steven and Athena I've arrived." Smh. He targets Athena mostly, her first time at SHIMMER after party, she was going outside to do a short interview and he GRABS her arm and asks aggressively, "Where you going??" Since it was her first time she wasn't sure how to react and told him what she was doing. He then caressed her arm saying, "Oh okay, okay."
It's astounding to me how many people think it's okay to treat the athletes like this, like they're their own personal property. It's one of the only drawbacks about SHIMMER and other all-female promotions, you have the creepiest guys come out of the woodwork. I often wonder if they act like this towards the women they interact with on a daily basis.

To Kurgan, dsxmachina, and Jen: thank you for all the kind words. I truly had a lot of fun getting to talk with the fans, wrestlers, and other various people that make SHIMMER great. It was nice getting to know where everyone came from and how they discovered the true diamond in the rough that is SHIMMER. And in response to Jen's quote, I am starting to overcome my shyness with each minute that passes by. Hopefully by the time the next set of tapings are announced, I won't be a stranger to any of you guys. Once again, thank you all for the kind words!

When he said "cheesecake", I realized who it was. Because I was the new kid on the block, so to speak, I didn't want to draw any negative attention to myself, so I politely nodded at everything he said about his business. At the very least, I know who the Cheesecake Guy is now.

I didn't see them on Sunday so I'm hoping they just came in off the street and weren't regulars. I give the wrestlers a hell of a lot of credit. I have no idea how they can put up with that kind of bs. On a more positive note, all four shows were absolutely amazing and I'm so glad that I finally got to meet Leva at the party after Twittering back-and-forth for months. I even got her Turtles shirt. ;D

I hope anyone who plans to attend a future taping doesn't get deterred by any talk of overly annoying fans. There's like maybe 3 or 4 idiots out of 250 people.

Personally, I'd put the estimate closer to about 20. But that's just minor nitpicking. The point still stands that the vast majority of the crowd are perfectly polite and well-behaved. Just come prepared knowing that a handful of times during the weekend, those 20 or so fans will make you want to stab your ears.

If there are 20 annoying Shimfans. I think about 10 of them were around me. The SHIMER joke guy and his pals were for sure trying my patience. I'll definitely make an attempt to find the "normal" fans this fall. That being said I did enjoy my second Shimmer weekend more than my first.

I'm sure they won't. If the crowd annoys people that much there's always headphones. The stuff I was talking about happened at the after party.
