I'd like to see it be Bolshoi, too bad it's not 1993 and she can't be the Bolshoi Kid.

She is one of a few that are only on Jersey. There will also be some who are only on Berwyn. There isn't enough room to book everyone on every show.

Though I wasn't able to give Lenny Leonard the message until it was too late to drop a hint last night on the SHINE 8 iPPV, look for the announcement late this week of the addition of a match important significance to the SHIMMER 53 iPPV coming up on April 6th from WrestleCon. We can't say more until then for a variety of reasons, but just know that our already stacked SHIMMER 53 lineup is about to get even more stacked. You can see it all live, either at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ, or on iPPV through WWN Live. Look for the announcement likely on Thursday or Friday of this week.

AYUMI KURIHARA ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT, ADDED TO SHIMMER 53!Earlier today in Japan, a press conference was held to make the official announcement of the impending retirement of one of the top joshi stars of the current generation, Ayumi Kurihara. As is true with so many professional wrestlers, Ayumi has been continuing to compete for the past several years while dealing with multiple injuries that have never fully healed. Her official retirement show and farewell match will take place on August 4th at Korakuen Hall. Through the assistance of the S-Ovation Co., which later went on to begin promoting events under the Joshi 4 Hope banner, Kurihara was able to make her way to the United States to debut for SHIMMER during April of 2010. Ayumi and rival Tomoka Nakagawa debuted in impressive fashion by tearing the house down with a semi main event bout against one another at SHIMMER 29, instantly establishing themselves with the SHIMMER audience in this part of the world. Ayumi went on to have a series of matches against Daizee Haze, as well as memorable outings against opponents such as Sara Del Rey, Nikki Roxx, Cheerleader Melissa, Madison Eagles, and Nicole Matthews. Ayumi also shared the honor of competing in the first all joshi SHIMMER main event, participating in a classic battle against Ayako Hamada at SHIMMER 38. The two women brought out the best in one another in that match, and gave the fans at the Berwyn Eagles Club the rare opportunity of seeing two of Japan's best face off in a main event on American soil. Kurihara and Hamada followed that up by deciding to form a tag team within the SHIMMER ranks. The pair became the fifth SHIMMER Tag Team Champions at SHIMMER 41, defeating the team of Haze & Nakagawa to earn the titles. They proceeded to defend the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship on eight different occasions, including becoming the first tag team to make an international defense, against Hiroyo Matsumoto & Misaki Ohata at the "Joshi 4 Hope III" event in Tokyo. Ayumi & Ayako ultimately lost the titles in the four team elimination match at SHIMMER 48, which was the last time Ayumi competed inside the SHIMMER ring. With Ayumi's impending retirement in Japan on August 4th, she made it known to both the Joshi 4 Hope office as well as SHIMMER management that she wanted to return to the United States one more time before hanging up the boots. Though Ayumi has obligations in Japan during the week of the upcoming SHIMMER tapings in Berwyn, she was able to rearrange her schedule to be able to head to the States for our SHIMMER 53 event as part of WrestleCon next weekend! During her time in SHIMMER, Kurihara has had the opportunity to step in the ring against virtually all of the top names on the roster at one time or another, be it in singles or tag team action. The one major exception, who Ayumi has not faced as of yet, is one of the SHIMMER originals, and one of the very best female competitors to come out of the United States in the past ten years, "The Latina Sensation" Mercedes Martinez. As a result, the match between them has been signed for SHIMMER 53 on April 6th at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ, as part of WrestleCon! If you can't be there to witness it in person, you can still see it live on iPPV! SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES will present SHIMMER 53 on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center (355 Plaza Drive) in Secaucus, NJ. Bell time for this afternoon event is 12pm (Noon). Tickets are now on sale at WWNlive.com for the SHIMMER 53 event. The first three rows of ringside are already sold out. Fourth row ringside is available at a cost of $35. General admission seating is priced at $25. The event is suitable for all ages. Even if you aren't in the area to attend the show in person, you can watch it live as it happens (and unlimited VOD after the fact) via WWNlive. When the original four joshis debuted back in 2010*, it was kinda funny because me and my buddies all gravitated to a different one - and for me it was Ayumi. An amazing talent, and I'm super pleased to have been ringside for every one of her SHIMMER matches. Shame I'll miss being there live for her final SHIMMER appearance, but I'll be watching on iPPV. F'n love her entrance music too, especially the jangly guitar during the chorus * I know Ayako actually predated them by a taping, but the Kurihara/Ohata/Matsumoto/Nakagawa group represented the start of the regular joshi invasions for me.
