I hope I see Havok/Leva do an X-Men "Fastball Special" at some point.

Last minute changes to the card - Shazza McKenzie will now face Miss Rachel, and with all due respect to Shazza, Evie gets a match I'm even more excited for, as she now wrestles Tessa Blanchard.

I like the change. Shazza and Evie can wrestle each other on other occasions too.
I'm even more excited to see Miss Rachel in SHINE. I hope they use her submission skills right, as she is much more than just another big girl. (Tessa is good too, but unlike Rachel, we can see her everywhere recently.)

That was one of the better SHINEs I've seen. That said, the finishes (especially the main event) just kind of... happen. I'm not really sure what the process is or how to fix it, it's just weird and takes away from all the awesome that leads up to that point.
3G/KimberBombs at SHIMMER will be good. Tessa debuts and immediately turns heel because SHINE needs more heels. The No DQ tag was vicious and my heart skipped when Su went over the rail.

Another Shine is in the books, and while it didn't start out that great, for my tastes, it found its footing and delivered quite well, in the end. The Madison Eagles/La Rosa Negra match was the first that I thought was very good. The last time that Madison Eagles was in Shine, she fought Ivelisse for the championship, so she could be forgiven if she treated this match as some sort of step down. It's a testament to how truly great Eagles is that she didn't, and it's a testament to La Rosa Negra that she could step up her game and have that quality match against Eagles. I was truly impressed.
Then Su Yung came out with Sweet Saraya Knight and blew me away with their appearance alone. Saraya had some incredible skull make-up and Su Yung had this even more detailed version of the painted mask that she has been making, only it looked in certain light like one side was slightly different than the other - it was freaking amazing - and then Leva's mask with her crew and Havok made the whole scene even more surreal - and to all of their credit, the match lived up to all the build-up and to the surreal quality of the tableu - any match where Havok is throwing Su Yung off a balcony with Leva leaping off the balcony onto her is pretty extreme. This match had all 4 women performing as my favorite version of themselves, including a hefty dose of darkness added to Leva's personality. I loved that match, and I'm glad that they finished it in a way that didn't end the conflict between them.
Then, if I'm keeping the order straight (not positive that I am), we had Kimber Bombs vs Global Green Gangstas, and that was probably my favorite match for both tag teams - well, not counting the phenomenal 6 and 8-woman matches that GGG had in October. I don't know why, but the styles of these 2 tag-teams just really brought out the best in each other. Once again, we had a non-finish, which didn't disappoint me because I was thinking that any finish would put a crimp in the upcoming Shimmer shows. And the non-finish didn't erase the truly great work that both teams had done.
Allysin Kay vs Kay Lee Ray was next, and I was glad to have a breather before the main event. It took me a while for my head to stop spinning from the previous matches to really appreciate the match as it was going on. It was quite good. Kay Lee Ray is another woman, like Su Yung, that is tough enough to enable a large strong woman to go full-out and to come back and have it be a competitive match.
The main event was well-done. Mia Yim and Santana work really well together. I think Mia brings out the best in Santana, at least the matches that I have enjoyed the most from Santana have been against Mia. Not surprisingly, Santana won, and is the NEWWWW Shine Champion. And Shine resisted the urge to finish the show with a heel faction running in and destroying everything, amazingly enough.

The events of last night mean that 3G require one more successful title defence to break MsChif's all-time record of 14. I got faith in My Team :-)

Slammin' Ladies have posted their May customs list of talent, and there's a surprising absence from the roster...
SHINE Tag Team Champion Cherry Bomb SHINE Tag Team Champion Kimber Lee Allysin Kay Taylor Made Brandi Wine Malia Hosaka Jayme Jameson Marti Belle Amber Gallows Andrea Mia Yim Crazy Mary Dobson Leva Bates La Rosa Negra Thunderkitty Xandra Bale Amanda Rodriguez Tracy Taylor Su Yung Leah Von Dutch
Yes... no sign of the new SHINE Champion Santana Garrett! Could it be that she's missing the first show of her title reign? Could also be that she may be booked elsewhere during the weekend and can't do customs, but we'll see...

Strange show tonight - very up and down, I thought. Lenny mentioned that people were slow to get to the place due to the torrential rains in the area. It was noticeably empty when the show started, so it felt odd. Some good moments in the Crazy Mary Dobson/Tracy Taylor tag-team match, I thought. Though it took the next match to raise things into a decent gear. I liked Leah Von Dutch vs Thunderkitty quite a bit. LVD's intensity was helped by a new Road Warrior meets Ronda Rousey look, as Lenny correctly described it. It was a real contrast with Thunderkitty's look and they worked well together. I loved the Havok vs Su Yung match. Su Yung is quite under-rated, in my opinion. She continues to bring depth to that demon-spawn character, which is an achievement in itself, and then to have a match with Havok where Havok gets to go pretty much all out and still have it be a competitive match is kind of phenomenal when you look at their size difference. It's a pleasure to see Havok where she can just go and be a full-on tank. The ending of the La Rosa Negra vs Taylor Made match might have been a bit abrupt, but I really like watching those two together. I completely agree with Lenny's commentary that they have both shown tremendous improvement as wrestlers through the course of their feud. It's that "tango" thing - these 2 go really well together, for some crazy reason. It was good to see Legendary back. They do the classic sneaky heel bit as good as any tag-team working today and I really enjoyed seeing both teams go all-out against each other. With the selling of Mia's knee injury, the championship match sagged a bit for me towards the end, but up to the point when they started selling that, both women did some truly great work. And the injury story enabled them to have Santana win while having Mia look strong - if only that injury didn't stop her from winning. The most exciting moment in the entire show for me was the return of Ivelisse at the end. Sometimes you don't realize how much you love a performer's work until you feel how excited you are to see them again. I hope Ivelisse re-claims the championship or otherwise establishes herself as a major part of Shine for a while once again, because she is truly great.
