Always love new talent making their way to shimmer and I'm loving the mother/daughter team here. That's pretty rare, haven't seen any of Saraya's work. What can I expect? Loads of great technical wrestling, and a shedload of intensity. Saraya doesn't just make it feel real - she IS real. And one word of warning; if you hear her say "Oi bitch", run for cover - because someone's getting damaged.

Definitely lots of intensity. I sometimes feel Saraya puts too much intensity into things to the point it becomes a little camp, but for the most part she is damned scary and has a deep, gravelly voice that makes me sit up and pay attention. I've never seen her do a backstage promo, but her talking in the ring (and I don't mean miked up, I mean intimidating the opponent) makes me think she could probably do some tough talking backstage segments.
She's badass and she definitely knows it.

Sounds like someone i'd love to see in shimmer, so how soon is March 26/27 now? Its amazing to think all these women will be in one weekend of wrestling. (Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa, Mercedes Martinez, the Knights, Ayumi, Aussies, MsChif, LuFisto, NINJAS, Daizee Haze, Serena, RaJett, Allison Danger, Melanie Cruise, plus some more debuts and/or returns. This is what makes Shimmer the best women's wrestling promotion in the world, imho)

So Saraya is the prototype for Melissa then in a way?

I'd say LCO are the prototypes for Melissa. Terminating Fembots Super Models that run on clean and pure BITCH RAGE energy.

It's funny - I clicked on reply because people were talking about Saraya... and I'm fairly sure nobody here has seen as much or written as much about her than I have over the last few years... but I haven't the faintest idea where to begin...
If you ask her what her style is, she'll tell you submission wrestling. She loves nothing more than getting on the mat and grappling with somebody... though to be honest, she's also known for her ferociousness in the ring when the mood takes her. I've seen her take shots in matches that would make Masato Tanaka weak at the knees, and give it back... I've seen her fight with Melissa on a cobbled street OUTSIDE the hall at the height of their feud... I've seen her gleefully bloody up Jetta... and that's just for starters.
Saraya's gift, as freaky said earlier, is an ability to make it feel real if you're watching her. She's had pullapart brawls where the lockerroom has emptied to keep her away from her intended victim, and the whole experience seems intensely real. She cuts a fine promo which, if she turns her attention to you, will make your balls shrivel up into your abdomen, yet in her feud with Jetta a couple of years ago (which spanned several promotions), she was one of the best babyfaces I've ever seen, to the point that when Jetta continually took advantage of her injured knee and escaped with a flukey win, each time I'd want to travel hundreds of miles to see the next Jetta/Saraya match. There was one period that Summer where I saw Jetta & Saraya wrestle on four consecutive weekends. Each one was amazing.
She's also a genuine inspiration, if you know the story of the injury she suffered in the Summer of '07 when her kneecap was severed from her leg. I remember Dann Read telling me that when they pulled her kneepad back to see the damage, the kneecap just came away with it. I was in attendance that night in Colchester, and I swear I'll take her screams of pain to my grave. I've never heard anything like it, and I hope I never do again. Initial reports suggested that her career was done - and I remember saying that on the offchance she ever did wrestle again, I'd promise to be there. The woman wrestled again within SIX MONTHS of the injury, going to a technical 15 minute draw with Blue Nikita (and yes, I was there). She even dumped the kneebrace entirely the following year, deciding that she could look after the knee better without the brace. An incredible woman.
Saraya is also the matriarch of the scene over here - and she really, really cares about her girls. I've seen it time and time again. If somebody needs advice, she'll give it. If somebody wants to learn something, she'll teach it. She's got a rep amongst some people for being difficult, but honestly, I think she's just passionate - and if she sees passion in you, she'll work her socks off with you on whatever you're doing. I've worked with her on various things over the years, suggesting ideas, doing some booking, commentating on shows, reviewing shows and I've never had anything even remotely resembling a bad word with her, even if I'm telling her something negative. When Stephie was coming over last year, Saraya was literally the first person I knew I could speak to to get her a booking, and Stephie couldn't stop talking about how much she'd learned from just two matches with Saraya. Believe it or not, when I told her about what Stephie had said, Saraya seemed genuinely surprised and chuffed at the compliment. She's got no airs and graces at all, but she's a woman who gives respect and expects respect in return. If you can get to that position with her, you're a lucky person.
So yeah.... I could likely sit and write more reminiscences about Saraya for hours, but I'll shut up now and leave by suggesting that say she should bring something totally different to SHIMMER in March. I cannot wait.

I know you guys briefly talked to her after the first Eve show and maybe it's too soon now, but maybe an interview with Saraya or Britani for WOW would whet people's appetites and familiarise folk with them ahead of Vol 37?

GREAT writeup. Reaffirms my Hokuto comparison, even down to the knee injury and coming back 6 months afterwards(Hokuto got too much distance on a plance and landed her knee on teh guardrail to where you could see the bone jutting out of her skin, and seh came back like within 6 months afterwards).
I can't wait to her interactions with the Candian Ninjaz.
I'd love 3S vs Knight Dynasty for the #1 Contendership at some point.
I had reported this vid to Dann last year, and he said he was fine with it being uploaded, so I'm assuming he's fine with it being posted.

I hope to see her in both. I actually don't think of her as a tag wrestler which made my inclination to expect her in singles matches, yet with all this talk of tagging I'm more intrigued by a tag match. Also in terms of singles wrestling, there's the small matter of this (not for the faint-hearted or queasy, honestly): c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/34/l_c68517f34b93584c0976815a2731a161.jpg

The Knights vs Ninjas should be a cracking match.
Furthermore, (based on the last EVE show with Nikki Storm) if you stick Saraya in the ring with a young talent, give them about 10 minutes and she will make them look like a star.

SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the United States return of Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata! Hiroyo and Misaki are the first two of the returning S-Ovation joshi stars who will be a part of the SHIMMER Volumes 37-40 tapings on Saturday & Sunday, March 26th & 27th, 2011 at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL. Collectively known as the Seven Star Sisters, or 3S in tag team competition, Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata look to find success in the growing SHIMMER tag team ranks come March. They are another new SHIMMER duo, along with the recently announced Knight Dynasty, who have their eyes on the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship, currently held by The Canadian Ninjas. Their Seven Star Sisters name relates to a Japanese festival that's celebrated in both of their home towns called Tanabata. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TanabataMisaki Ohata has been a part of SHIMMER since Volume 29. She was able to score an impressive victory in her American debut against one of SHIMMER's top athletes, Daizee Haze. She has also had the opportunity to test her skills in singles bouts against SHIMMER originals such as Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa, Ariel, Nikki Roxx, and Mercedes Martinez. Ohata was able to score two submission victories at our last set of tapings via her unique Fairy Lock submission hold, just one of many she puts to use to finish off her opponents. Misaki's intention to move into more tag team action presents a new challenge for her inside the SHIMMER ring. Hiroyo Matsumoto made her SHIMMER debut on Volume 30 against Sara Del Rey, less than 24 hours after competing in a tournament in Japan. She also went on to have unforgettable bouts against LuFisto and Mercedes Martinez on subsequent SHIMMER DVD releases, the latter of which earned a standing ovation and "Please come back" chant from the fans in attendance at the Berwyn Eagles Club. Though she was forced to miss our last set of tapings due to injury, Hiroyo is anxious to return to the mix alongside Misaki, as they are determined to become a tag team force in the United States. Hiroyo and Misaki join previously announced talents SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles, SHIMMER Tag Team Champions The Canadian Ninjas, "Your Soul's Tormentor" MsChif, Cheerleader Melissa, Daizee Haze, "The Queen of Wrestling" Sara Del Rey, "The Latina Sensation" Mercedes Martinez, Serena Deeb, Saraya Knight, and Britani Knight as those confirmed thus far for participation in the March 26th & 27th events. Front row seating is already SOLD OUT for both days. General admission seating is still available at www.shimmerwrestling.com/ using PayPal. You may also purchase tickets by mail order. E-mail dave_prazak@yahoo.com for mail order instructions. Mark your calendars! SHIMMER is back at the Eagles Club in Berwyn on March 26th & 27th!
