SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES returned to the Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL on Sunday, May 21st. Volumes 5 & 6 of the SHIMMER DVD series were filmed over the course of the event. Here's what went down...
1. DAIZEE HAZE def. PORTIA PEREZ (in Portia's SHIMMER debut) with the Heart Punch/Mind Trip combination in a match taped for free viewing online very soon. Immediately after the pinfall, REBECCA KNOX hit the ring, caught Daizee from behind, and drilled her into the mat with an overhead suplex. The K-Nox then cut a scathing promo on the fans in attendance and declared she would be victorious in the 2 out of 3 falls bout against The Haze later in the night.
The first portion of the show consisted of bouts to appear on SHIMMER Volume 5.
2. RAIN of "The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew" def. LORELEI LEE in the opening match of Volume 5 with the Acid Rain (Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex).
3. MsCHIF def. CINDY ROGERS via pinfall following the Desecrator in a highly contested match that featured a great deal of submission style wrestling.
4. AMBER O'NEAL def. SERENA DEEB (in Serena's SHIMMER debut), with a roll up and a handful of tights.
5. LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA def. ARIEL & JOSIE in tag team action with a double team gourdbuster when Fyfe pinned Ariel.
6. ALLISON DANGER def. CHEERLEADER MELISSA with an inside cradle. Late in the match, MsCHIF made her way to ringside, serving as a distraction to Melissa, causing her to not be completely focused on Danger and be open for a quick pinfall. An enraged Melissa immediately charged after MsChif after the fall, and began to brawl with her on the floor. Several referees could not pry the two women apart, causing the locker room to empty and separate both wrestlers.
7. AMAZING KONG def. NIKKI ROXX in Kong's SHIMMER debut with a spinning back fist followed by a sit out powerbomb. Kong dominated the majority of the match, but Roxx put up a strong fight, kept kicking out, and hung in there against an opponent almost twice her size for over ten minutes of hard hitting action.
8. NIKITA def. LACEY of "The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew" in Nikita's SHIMMER debut, with a uranage into a backbreaker over the knee, in just under 15 minutes. The crowd got solidly behind the star from the UK.
9. REBECCA KNOX def. DAIZEE HAZE two falls to one in a two out of three falls rematch of the main event from SHIMMER Volume 4. Haze scored the first fall with the Heart Punch/Yakuza Kick combination just past the 17 minute mark. Knox evened the score at one fall a piece with a roll up while holding the second rope for leverage approximately 23 minutes in. The third and deciding fall saw Knox apply a leglock submission hold near the ropes, and use the bottom rope for extra leverage (out of the line of sight of referee BRYCE REMSBURG) to cause the pain of the maneuver to force Daizee's shoulders to the canvas for a count of three. The match was the longest in SHIMMER history thus far, at just under 30 minutes. ALLISON DANGER immediately made her way to ringside to tell Remsburg that Knox was illegally using the ropes, but he told her he didn't see it and the decision must stand. Danger grabbed the microphone and said that by her count, Daizee has cleanly defeated Knox in SHIMMER competition twice since her arrival in the promotion, and Knox has had to use the ropes to defeat Daizee twice. Allison mentioned that she and Daizee are Ring of Honor girls, and in ROH they have a Pure Wrestling format for certain matches, where you must force your opponent to use up their share of rope breaks before you may use the ropes to your advantage. Danger issued a challenge to Knox for a Pure Wrestling Rules match on SHIMMER Volume 6.
10. "American Angel" SARA DEL REY def. "Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ at just under the 22 minute mark of a No Time Limit rematch from SHIMMER Volume 1, when Sara rolled Mercedes' shoulders back against the canvas while Martinez had Del Rey in a submission hold. Mercedes attempted to hit her trademark Fisherman Buster several times during the match, but was unsuccessful, as was Sara in attempting to get Martinez in the Butterfly Lock. After the match, Del Rey told Martinez that, once again, she gave her one of the toughest challenges of her career, and any time she wants a third match against her, she's got it.
In a locker room interview following the match, LACEY confronted Martinez about being too focused on constantly wrestling Del Rey in SHIMMER, and accused her of being scared to step in the ring with her again. Lacey said that she works best in tag team competition along with her partner RAIN as "The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew," and suggested Martinez find a tag team partner to go up against them on SHIMMER Volume 6. Del Rey interrupted the conversation and offered to be Mercedes' partner, and the tag match was signed for Volume 6.
The remainder of the taping consisted of bouts to appear on SHIMMER Volume 6.
11. LEXIE FYFE & MALIA HOSAKA & AMAZING KONG def. ARIEL & JOSIE & CINDY ROGERS in trios tag team action when Kong pinned Josie. Just prior to the fall, Fyfe & Hosaka hit the double team gourdbuster on Josie, followed by a second rope splash by Kong.
12. SERENA DEEB def. AMBER O'NEAL via pinfall by rolling over an inside cradle, to gain retribution for Amber's cheap victory against her on SHIMMER Volume 5.
13. NIKKI ROXX def. LORELEI LEE with the Cruncher in a match between two crowd favorites.
14. DAIZEE HAZE def. NIKITA with a bridging jackknife pin. The fans turned on Nikita during the match due to her decision to put some shady and illegal tactics to use against The Haze.
15. REBECCA KNOX def. ALLISON DANGER in a Pure Wrestling Rules contest, at just under the 26 minute mark. Knox used the referee to her advantage early on, connecting with several closed fist punches to the face without him seeing, causing Danger to let her temper get the best of her and land two of her own, which the referee saw, resulting in her to losing her first rope break. Knox used her first rope break when her legs reached the ropes while Allison applied an arm submission. Knox went to work relentlessly on the leg of Danger, obnoxiously calling her "peg leg" while doing so. Allison used her second rope break to escape a modified indian deathlock submission hold. Getting her second wind, Danger was able to nail the Lovelace Choker (neckbreaker to the knee) followed by an STO, causing Knox to use her second rope break to save herself from being pinned. Danger used her third and final rope break to escape a modified Muta lock. Knox immediately began to legally use the ropes for leverage in an attempt to gain a submission victory. Danger was able to lock in a choke-out variation of the Stretch Plum, which made Rebecca use her third rope break. With the ropes in play for both women, it was Knox that gained the victory, and cleanly, when Danger had too much momentum with a flying crossbody off the ropes, and Knox rolled through for the pin.
16. "The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew" LACEY & RAIN def. "American Angel" SARA DEL REY & "Latina Sensation" MERCEDES MARTINEZ in tag team action when Del Rey accidentally nailed Martinez with a running boot off the ropes (which was intended to hit Lacey), causing Martinez to fall victim to Lacey's implant DDT and the three count. After the match, Martinez blamed Del Rey for the loss, and angrily told her that she's now ready for a third match in the series against Sara.
17. In the main event of the taping, MsCHIF def. CHEERLEADER MELISSA in a wild Last Woman Standing/Falls Count Anywhere Match after hitting the Desecrator on a steel chair, rendering Melissa unable answer the referee's ten count. Both women took the brawl all over the building. Melissa repeatedly attempted, unsuccessfully, to hit the Kudoh Driver/Cop Killa on MsChif (a maneuver she has yet to hit on any of the women while in SHIMMER competition). The crowd chanted both wrestlers' names after the match.
Everyone at SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES would like to thank all of the fans who came out to watch what resulted in an over six hour long taping, and stayed energetic through the very end! We appreciate the support from everyone in the Chicagoland area, as well as those die hard fans who traveled long distances from out of state for the sake of experiencing the show live in person. We'd also like to thank All American Wrestling for their assistance at the event, everyone at the Berwyn Eagles Club, and Ring of Honor for their help in spreading the word to wrestling fans about the SHIMMER product.
We would also like to thank NORA "Molly Holly" GREENWALD for her appearance at the event, signing autographs and taking pictures with the fans, as well as helping out several members of the SHIMMER roster with advice throughout the night. Her very presence at the taping meant so much to us as an organization, and our gratitude cannot be expressed in words. Thank you, Nora!
SHIMMER staff photographers Mary-Kate Grosso and Jill McKee were both shooting all night long at the taping, and will have their action and locker room posed photo galleries up on the web very soon. Keep your eyes peeled to the SHIMMER site during the coming days.
