Another problem with that is if you do something like that and, say Mercedes wins the "money in the bank" and a month between tapings gets signed to WWE what do you do? That's why you really don't see any long term booking in Shimmer. The longest drawn out storyline I can remember was Cindy vs Danger and possibly you can include Mercedes vs Del Rey.

She'll probably go to TNA more likely than to Vince, I still don't trust vince even though their women's division has gotten better, for every Mickie, Beth, Nattie or Melina who have great look and/or straight-up wrestling ability and over with the fans, there's either a Maria or Ashley with no talent or Jillian Hall or Katie Lea with great ability but a bad gimmick, Jillian with the mock "Brooke Hogan" gimmick (it was originally based on taking a shot at the Hulkster b4 his shenanigans) and Katie with the "Sarah Michelle Gellar's Character in Cruel Intentions" gimmick with Birchill (call me crazy but I still wait for the Birchill gets a title shot and Katie does the "If you win the belt...(insert famous quote Gellar says from Cruel Intentions movie started with "In English...." you fill in the rest) But by all means Mercedes in TNA with LAX is 100% better than a million years in Developmental only to either be released or called up with the chances of credibility being killed and Mercedes in a WWE Divas photoshoot magazine

I've read all the comments about how good / bad the show was supposed to be, and although I'll obviously reserve ultimate judgment until I see the matches on DVD, even I've got to say that 'on paper', it does look like a 'weakened' line up. I think that the biggest problem with SHIMMER at this moment is, to use a football term, a 'strength in depth' issue. Of course, any promotion is going to miss women of the quality of Lacey and Daizee, but I think it goes a little further than that. For starters, people mentioned that some of the 'new girls' don't match up to previous batch, but the ones that were mentioned like Krissy Vaine, Tiana e.t.c. were hardly 'rookies' at that time, were they. That to me clearly shows the strength in depth issue. I mean, compare the ladies on Volume One to Volume Ninteen...every one of them on Volume One was a well known and established talent (excluding Christie Ricci, obviously ). I am aware that with the ladies that were missing, it means that more 'new girls' had to be used. I do also agree with Stevie that you have to bring the new blood through. What's important though is just how you do it. SHIMMER prides itself on top notch indy womens action, but the potential for the overall quality of the product to slip when the percentage of 'newbies' is higher increases greatly. Then, there is the problem of how to utilize talent (something that I feel has always seemed to plague SHIMMER in one way or another, which has normally fortunately been compensated for by the abilities of the ladies in most cases). All these points, which have unfortunately all conspired to align themselves at the same time, seem to have made for a interest few volumes...

Just going through all my photos from the show, and this was a nice one. I'll get them up on Flickr soon.

I have to laugh when I see people (who weren't there of course) say how much weaker the undercard is now than in the past. Please. The undercard is stronger than I've seen it so far. It's had a lot of addition by subtraction by replacing some really nothing-happening people who shall remain nameless with energetic and quickly improving women like Danyah & Cat Power. Those two really impressed me last night. I really, really don't like the Shark Girl gimmick, though, but that could just be me. Other than that, the undercard kept me entertained all the way up to the mid and upper card. I think you will all be pleasantly surprised how the shows come off.

What you have to remember is that it is a personal thing; an opinion. Just like it is your opinion that there was "some really nothing-happening people who shall remain nameless". Can't slate other peoples opinion while applying your own really, can you? I think that the best thing for you and others is to just put what your opinion is, and doing so without trying to belittle others. And that is just my opinion, obviously. ;D

A fair point. Danyah & Blake in particular surprised me. I wouldn't have thought from the previous taping that they had this in them. They might've just had an off night on the last tapings or they work better as singles wrestlers than as a team.
Del Ray was born to play heel, by the way. She was awesome as a killer, run-right-through-you heel last night. Not sure MsChif will be able to stop her.

This small group just attaked Danger & Del Rey all night long. Del Rey you could kind of understand since she's gone all demonic and stuff but even with her it went beyond heel heat. Stuff like "You've got nothing Del Rey, you're all blown up, you're a has been, put more make up on because you're still ugly". Del Rey got hot and actually pulled Ariel over to the ropes right in front of them and tortured her and said "this is for you" to the ringleader. But Danger? Jeez, I actually felt embarrased to be a wrestling fan and even embarrased to be a local fan for fear she thought she these people were "ours". (They aren't locals, by the way since they were asking people around about AAW, our local promotion that also runs out of the building that Joey would plug between matches). Since they were on the hard cam side you figure it's going to show up on the dvd soundtrack unless Dave can find a way to get it off of there. It wasn't heat, it was disrespect. Danger's trying to do a promo on Portia and the ringleader guy is yelling OVER Danger so you can't even hear her. It was during her 2nd match that she just snapped and yelled at the guy "Why don't you shut up! No one paid to see you! You're what's killing off wrestling fans" and he went right back to yelling at her "No one paid to see you! How much Reynolds Wrap did it take to make your ring outfit? blah blah blah" and on and on... you just wanted to crawl under your chair. Man, sounds like some people need a real life ass kicking

People shouldn't freak out over the quality of the shows, especially based solely on reading results. 19 may not end up my fav Shimmer volume, but it was still a good show, and I'd still recommend everybody buy both DVDs the moment they come out. I have no complaints over the quality of the talent on the card, although I would have preferred a few more even or marquee match ups on 19. There were also probably a few too many punch/kick/chop type matches on one volume, or at least that's how it felt live. But most if not all the newer workers did really well and are nicely positioned for the future. Nikki and LuFisto had tremendous returns. My only legit complaint is with parts of the crowd harassing the wrestlers, interrupting promos, and crapping on important new gimmicks, and even then, I have high standards for Shimmer crowds, which tend to be the smartest and most supportive out there and tend to enhance the product not disrupt it.

I believe 19 should be considered for the battle royal alone. That was a lot of fun.

Man, sounds like some people need a real life ass kicking I have to agree with these comments. Those guys really sucked. I don't know if the "mule" guy was with them or just by them, but I was so happy to see SDR put him in his place and the crowd agreeing that he deserved it. The "Sara Taker" chants coming from over there pissed me off, too. Heel heat (which she earned and deserved) does not include smarky insults. BTW, I thought Sara was awesome from her appearance in the rumble -- er, royal -- to her match with Ariel. She was pure evil and a total natural. However, it wouldn't have worked as well with a different opponent, as proven by the repeat with Deeb. Ariel really got over as she struggled to fight her way back from the beating. They had great chemistry and the crowd was behind it the whole time. Deeb's match was different -- she's not the plucky underdog face anymore. I think the crowd had a hard time getting behind her against Sara. But SDR worked old school ring pysch by focusing on the same leg over and over, and Deeb finally had to submit. Sara's way more over with me now than she was as a Face, and I will happily boo her all night long. I am looking forward to hearing how AD commentates her heelness. I don't know many of the matches that I would call weak. Some were less exciting, but the new girls really surprised me (I haven't rec'd my order of 17-18 from ROH yet). Jennifer Blake is a fireball, and Danger did a great job of putting her over. I thought I was watching Joe v Kobashi at one point, with all those chops! They make a good team, too. I eagerly await her progress. Cat has the look and a decent personality, and her work is improving from that Dark Match. I like her and hope she continues to get better. Veronica Vice impressed me, too, especially in the second show. She had more character the second time around, she's a good worker, and she has Elizabeth hair. What's not to like? Though I was one of the few cheering on Jetta/Rain, I was really impressed with Ashely/Nevaeh. They're gorgeous, of course, but they work well as a team and can really get the fans behind them. Nicole continues to look good. Danyah impressed me in both of her matches, even though one was a squash with Kong. I have to agree that Nikki wasn't as over as she had been, which made me sad. But she did some good work, and against Ariel especially. And I was pleased to be able to tell her in person that looking up Roxxi is how I discovered SHIMMER, so she was in some ways the reason I was there! (She smiled and said, "Cool, thanks!") Last night, I especially became a fan of Mercedes, LuFisto (yes, I admit it, I now like her, as long as she's not working a lot of blood), Dynamite, and Veronica. Jetta cracked me up all night, and I think she "does" Lacey better than Lacey has in awhile. Unlike the guys around me, I enjoyed her constant commentary during her matches ("Workrate, that's what Rain has"). I had no problem with her main eventing, especially when you compare that match with the uber-serious one Chif had with MM -- it was a nice contrast. Rain looked really good against LuFisto, btw. I was pleased to see it. Should I even say anything about both of Melissa's matches? I didn't know how anyone could follow up the emotion of the SDR/Ariel match, and I was pleased to see CLM and MM not try. They put on a technical clinic, full of mat wrestling and reversals and submission holds. I would have been happy to see that one go another 10 minutes at least, if not to the limit -- matter of fact, I wanted them to work to a draw, so wonderfully old school was this match. CLM/LuFisto was another classic; I enjoyed seeing Melissa clown a bit in the opener, which felt so unlike her. Seriously, can that woman do any wrong in the ring? Both of these matches would have been MOTN if not for Chif/MM, which I might call the SHIMMER MOTY once I have watched it a few more times.

I mean when Goldberg lost his 2 major matches (Starrcade 98 Vs Nash & Sin 2001) they were both in controversy, Mercedes is not the type to lose clean and have no excuses for her loss, She should lose by some shenanigans, if she was Misted in the face and then hit with the desecrator, then it'd make more sense, but if she just got hit with the desecrator and pinned clean as a whistle, that helps MsChif and actually HURTS Mercedes for it shows that she's NOT Worthy of the belt when she does the job and it proves that MsChif is someone she can never pin or submit, Now what's next for her, go to mid carder? Turn Heel? It's odd and it sucks. I don't think MM jobbed to Chif, except in the most technical sense of the word. It was a freaking amazing match, with both wrestlers looking like winning at every second and the intensity never ending. By far my favorite match of the night.

Was wondering how the Jetta/Chif match went? Seemed to be a long one judging by the length of time between updates. I'm also hoping Jetta stepped up and managed to silence the critics. It was definitely something of a comedy match, with Jetta running from Chif all night and making her running commentary. I thought she was funny and sold well, and I look forward to seeing more of her.
