For the AAW show on October 9th, there was a picture advertising Tessa Blanchard, Mia Yim, and Candace LaRae. Hopefully, this is an indication that they will also be performing for Shimmer that weekend as well. Excellent! Mia and Candice are great and from reading Twitter during the last tapings Tessa Blanchard seemed to get some real heat!

And as Sarah Stock taking on Io Shirai at Stardom on October 11th has been announced, the tiny grain of hope that I was holding on to for her to come to Shimmer one last time is officially gone XD
Still can't wait though! Interested to see who the Joshi lot will be this time and how the new Brits and Australian get on.

She's certainly solidly in that top-tier New Breed group of young women wrestlers along with Evie, Kay Lee Ray, Heidi Lovelace - the international kick-the-crap-out-of-each-other-and-look-good-doing-it crew. I've got to say that Cheerleader Melissa proved just how freaking great she is to me a couple of weeks ago. She was in that tournament that Gold Coast Wrestling had. The first round match was Cheerleader Melissa vs Nicole Savoy. Nicole was utterly worn out after their match, practically breathless. Melissa was cool as a cucumber, went on to have her next 2 rounds of matches with no problem and win the championship, looking like she had at the beginning of the evening. I did kind of go off Melissa a year ago. I found her second title reign a bit boring when she was a face, then I loved her heel run until it became clear that Lufisto's title chase was awkwardly aborted and the whole Chickfight mess of that feud with Havok happened too. Now she's no longer champion I reckon she'll be more tolerable and I heard she had some good matches at the last tapings. For me, the weird thing about heel Melissa is she was actually dirtier and more of a bully as a face, especially her "clean" matches vs. Ariel and Kurihara earlier in the series. When she turned heel except for the Danger attack she seems to wrestle not as rough which seems counterproductive. Speaking of the Danger attack one really funny thing for me is on commentary Dave has a conniption that someone would go after an old injury yet if you go waaaay back to Danger vs. LuFisto, Lufi is fresh off a back injury and comes in with it bandaged. Danger attacks and goes after it, Dave is like "That's smart wrestling going after an opponents injury". On yet another unrelated yet linked topic I still think Dave & Portia with their mid 80s "face can do no wrong" McMahon and "intelligent heel talking about heels intelligently making McMahon look dumb" Ventura styles were the best.

Saraya's just scary but I guess I should say if you're an old school wrestling fan from back when promos meant something as opposed to just getting cheap heat or swearing at fans then yeah, she's the best.

Aren't Saraya and Portia old school heels though? Admittedly Saraya has more of an 'uncensored' edge to her and I can understand if that's not to people's tastes but I don't think that Tessa is better than Portia yet. Her promo on Serena on volume 34 is still the best in the promotion's history, in my opinion.

To me, a great heel promo has to have an aspect of being frightening. While Portia has done some evil things, I've never found her frightening. I certainly like listening to her talk and seeing her perform. But her comic-heel work, like her series of stealing opponents' ring-gear, worked best for me. Saraya, though - yeah, she's scary - deep down scary. Tessa - not frightening in the least, though she's tremendously entertaining - just so much charisma. She's like Nikki Storm in that way, for me - let them near a mic and I'll be delighted. Tessa didn't even need a mic - you could hear everything she said in the ring without one.

Not all great heel interviews have to be frightening, because not all heels are frightening. Is Paul Heyman frightening? Was Arn Anderson? Tully Blanchard? Jerry Lawler? Jim Cornette? I think I've made my point.

The goal of a heel promo is to be as unlikable as possible. Also, I would be EXTREMELY loath to crown someone after one promo when Veda, Portia, Havok, Saraya, Matthews and Nikki kill it consistently every time out. Let's get a grip here.

That's funny I was just coming to say "Upon reviewing Portia's promos on Serena (PORTIA WAS RIGHT DAMN IT!)......" Yeah, I actually like her promo on Serena on vol. 40 or 41 even better where she goes off about how by Serena taking advantage of an illegal pin on Portia makes Serena just as much a jerk as she is. Portia has a way with words where initially you think "She's deluded" but by the end of whatever it is she says you're like "Crap, that makes total sense".

Another thing I noticed about Danger is go back and watch any match she loses, whether dirty or not she either bitches out the ref or whines on commentary to Prazak. To this day I don't know why she started out and remained a face in Shimmer as its just not natural for her.

She complains that the ref who counted her shoulders to the mat at Volume 11 should be fired. I joked in my reviews that she sounds like a religious nut telling Cindy to stay on the right path, fight the good fight etc. It cracks me up.

"Stay on the right path girl" "We do things the right way here girl"
