Love everything about this one.
The disc artwork is great. spoon. Fork! KENDO STICK!!
The innercover with the CVE/Saraya pics is superb also.
Lastly Hikuru Shida had the sexiest hair style ever on these tapings. Just love her.
I feel this volume was the weakest of the 4 due to the rushed final three matches, but I'll be buying it regardless and hope it holds up better than I recall.
Also this is the best DVD cover since Volume 50 at least.

61 was a fine show - of the four from October 2013, I'd have to say this finished bottom of the four, but there's some good stuff on here.
Though the three way only went seven minutes, Eagles, Kana and Shida packed a hell of a lot into that time. It's not the amount of time a match gets, it's what the wrestlers do with that time that counts, and though I'd have liked it to have gone longer, they had pretty much the best ever seven minute three way I've ever seen.
LuFi and Mercedes had a great brawl, but at that point in time, they could have one with their eyes closed, they're so used to each other. This was the weekend of shows in recent times that I didn't go to, and to be fair, I probably wouldn't have left all that satisfied given the finish. But seeing as there was probably going to be a title match (I'm guessing Melissa/Kana), this was a good save.
The tag title match was enjoyable, and I can't wait for the 2015 rematch with 3G and the Kimber Bombs, now the Bombs are far more solid as a team than they even were on this show. A lot of the midcard matches on this show were similar length and kinda blended together at times, though I enjoyed the finish of Matsumoto/Perez, Bates/Storm was entertaining, and Lovelace proved herself a solid hand for down the line against Matthews.
And as for Von Eerie and Saraya? That match sure got hella complicated. From the way Saraya described it at Volume 60, it would be the two first periods, and only if the scores were tied after that point would it go to the hardcore match. The time limits messed the flow up pretty badly, and when the match was described to me by Reid after the show, he was confused how it went to the third fall when CVE was up 1-0, and Saraya couldn't win. It was a good attempt at a save by Dave on commentary by explaining that with it being 1-0 CVE heading into the hardcore match, that if Saraya won the next fall, they'd have another hardcore match to decide the contest. For me, throwing time limits into that scenario makes it confusing for everyone. A shame that CVE couldn't really capitalise off the back of this match.

From what I recall the whole show was hurt by the fact the ring had to be repaired for quite a while before both of the day's tapings were filmed.
You said that the likely main event was to be Melissa vs Kana, whereas I think it was most likely going to be Melissa & Mercedes vs LuKana. That seemed to make more sense going into it. This would have just given us Eagles vs Shida 1 on 1, which makes sense given the Eagles/Shida showdown at Volume 60. Then however with Melissa having to go to hospital they had to rejig the shows had therefore gave us Lufi vs Mercedes in the main event and with Kana having nothing to do tossed her into the triple threat.
That still would have been okay, except with the show I assume running too late in the evening the last three matches had to be rushed. The triple threat did as well as it could given the time restraints on it while Lufi and MM somewhat covered up for their lack of time (and the fact they had already wrestled the day before) by brawling through the crowds to make it seem special and unqiue.
The 2/3 falls match though was screwed the most. First of all the 5 minute time limits could only have been added due to time restrictions and this largely killed the match already. Then the finish of the 2nd fall was, I think, b0tched. At the time it appeared CVE had tapped out so we all thought "okay, bring on the 3rd fall" so we were all confused when Kevin Harvey said the time limit had ran out. Which meant that going into the last fall once the "did she tap? I thought she tapped? What the hell is going on?" confusion had died down everyone knew that Saraya was fighting a pointless battle really.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I think looking back it would have been better if the main event was maybe a 5 way #1 contenders match with Lufisto, Mercedes, Kana, Eagles and Shida. Rather than have 2 short matches, have 1 decent length one and just have it be nonstop action. You can still have Melissa run out and attack Lufisto afterwards too.
I'm still not sure if you would get enough time for the CVE/Saraya match, but you could have solved that by scrapping the time limit thing altogether by having Von Eerie in the first fall take Saraya by surprise with a quick roll-up and pin her in seconds. Then you'd have at least 15 minutes for 2 falls.

There were no "time constraints" rushing anything. If a show runs long, we just pay a bit more in venue rent, which we do frequently. For this show, entire matches had to switch as the show was in progress. Everyone did the best they could given the circumstances.
