I'm surprised no one pulled this one out of the "Shine" Back when this guy I liked 10+ years ago, now I can't stand and is so overrated....

I might as well broach the sensitive aspect of this name.
I don't want to offend anybody, but isn't "shine" sometimes used as a derogatory racial slur? Many forget because they're displaced Northeners, but Florida is still the South.
Again not trying to offend just putting on the political operative hat...

As a lifelong Southerner, the only slang use of "shine" I know of is a shorthand for "moonshine". And moonshine livens up any wrasslin' event.

I certainly don't pretend to know much about colloquialisms and regionally specific derogatory slang, but, it really seems anymore in this age of political correctness that there is nary a word in the English language that can't somehow be misconstrued as being offensive to somebody. It's a wonder we can say anything anymore.

This is a particularly absurd string of posts. It's not the fault of "political correctness" that "shine" is a racial slur. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It's the fault of, um, racists actually. I doubt anyone will take offense here though, it's pretty obviously using "Shine" as a verb. And the logo is pink and happy. I'm sure Fox or Rush can give you something else fake to be worried about. It's political correctness gone mad. O, for the good old days when the thought police didn't try to control us, things were much better then when even politicians could say what they really wanted. MOD EDIT: Link deleted for stupidity, and user suspended. Yes, things were much better when your favorite politicians could call me a "n****." You are a Tag Team of Annie Social and Kimber Lee.

yes, Shine has been used as a racial slur, and it grew out of the belief in early 20th Century U.S. Society that Blacks were only good for shining shoes. Not frequently used today and will doubtfully offend THAT many but I don't get how attacking "PC" or "thought police" will make anything better. In fact, it just makes you sound really, really white/kind of racist. Nobody is accusing the promotion of enacting a secret racist agenda. Breathe. Eat a cookie.

Anybody involved in marketing or branding takes into account the sensitivities of others, it has nothing to do with Political Correctness or "thought police." That defense is often used by those with pea brains.
The question is whether or not the company's black wrestlers/fans will purchase and wear a t-shirt that says SHINE on it etc., or if people will snicker/sneer at the name on posters.
Nobody wants to stop anybody from being a bigot, that's your personal call. When selling something, if people are offended you take their critique as legitimate. You don't act like they're being sensitive.
