Thogh I can't attend the tapings because of where I live (OK, I know you've heard that one before), I do intend to but the DVD's. Hopefully SHIMMER will come around the New York area when it is established.
Can it succeed? I believe it can. I believe if you're really passionate about women's wrestling, you'll find a way to make it work. The reasons why WWE and WCW didn't make a decent women's division is they didn't care enough to do it right.

Can it succeed?
Hopefully it can.
A serious womens promotion has been needed in the states for a long time. Volcano Girls did really well....or it's reported that it has anyway. I think that the association with ROH will definately help. If the ROH fanboys are convinced it's kool then they'll eat it up. Now for all the joshi fans to enjoy it, they need to step up in the ring. If they don't then it'll be a hard climb.
As a serious joshi fan and supporter of wrestling in general, I will definately buy the first few DVD releases to see what they are offereing. So far, I've never been impressed with any of the womens wrestling on the indy scene. I'm hoping this will change with Shimmer.
I will be a supporter either way as this needs to happen.

Someone who goes to the show could write a arena report and send it to the sites like Torch.

I'll be going to the show. If I can remember everything that happens then I'll write up some results, or at very least, write about the general atmosphere at the arena & my opinions about the show.
I have a broken ankle so I'll probably be a little buzzed on painkillers so I might not remember everything, esp. since I'm not too familair with most of the talent.

Based on what I saw Sunday night, I would say that Shimmer should absolutely succeed. The fans need to continue to support Shimmer and the ladies, and it could take off big!

The thing is when you have shows every two months it's hard to keep momentum going. SHIMMER needs to come up with some way to keep everyone's interest from now until January.

Well, with the DVDs coming out in Dec. through the ROH website, hopefully they can sell alot of them, enough to interest more people to show up to the next event in January. I know I'll be there, hopefully it'll be at the same place, the Eagles Club, since I know how to get there now & it's only an hour drive.

I just watched a show on the National Geographic Channel about Gender Bending and one of the topics was japanese womens' wrestling. It's an aspect of gender bending because it shatters the stereotype of "acting like a woman" and shows women acting like off-beat, scary warriors, pummeling each other. 70% of the audience was female. (this segment was based around GAEA).
SHIMMER can survive by shattering the stereotype and wrestling. I think people want to see women act like wrestlers instead of well, you know. ..
